found it searching another forum... shows the Crank position sensor

as the culprit.
I took the plastic cover off my 2004 CLK55.
I am looking down the driver side between the engine and the tranny. There is so little room in here I cant see crap.
Can someome point me a little closer please.
Can I get to this from underneath the car?

TIA

driver seat passenger compartment, look in a line directly below the key...7 inches down...7 inches forward, you will see the little door that exposes the plug.

I just looked and see no such door. I even took off a plastic trim piece below the steering column.
Mine is a 2004 model. Perhaps your 2002 model is different in this respect.

It's located near the hood release on the driver's side. There's a cover you need to flip to access it.

I'm pretty sure he found the OBDC connector and was able to read the code indicating the Crank Position Sensor to be the problem. (right?)

I replaced mine about 2 weeks ago, it was a *****. I removed the airbox and air flow sensor at the rear of the engine, then kneeled on the engine to get at it.
I had to do it all by touch, I wasn't able to actually see the CPS.
I was able to get the inverted torx socket on a swivel adapter in from the valve cover.

I wasn't able to get at it from the side, the fuel line and some plastics were in the way

Its ALL the way in the back here:

Under/behind these plastics. All the way down on the bell housing.
