Brake question

I know that there are people on this forum that have upgraded the brakes on their w208 to the brakes from the W209. I have tried searching through this forum trying to find answers but all I find is people saying "use the search function, it's been done..." I just want to know if the calipers are a direct bolt on replacement or if you need to make an adapter or modify the calipers in some way. Or if someone could point me to the right thread to look at, that would be great as well.

Hi Johawk79,

Have you read about my own brake conversion? If so did it help?

hi joe,if you don't want to pay a lot of money, you can upgrade to W209 AMG brakes without any modification !! the brakes for these cars are the same: C32 02-04, CLK55 03-04, C55 05-06, and a lot of models that use the new V6 (code272) 350 engine.they all use the same 4 pot calipers & the 13.6 inches disc in the front.the only problem is the small bolt in the disc,it will not fit, this bolt will hold the disc in place when you change the wheel...it's nothing,i drive my CLK55 01 without it.
My CLK55 05 uses the 6 pot calipers in front with the same 13,6" disc & 4 pot in the rear, also the SLK55 05-06-07 use the same set of brakes like the CLK55 05-06.
The E63 07 & C63 08 use bigger 6 pot calipers & discs.
I don't recommend you to put the huge W211 8 pot calipers & discs, they are very expensive to replace, they contain 8 pads instead of 4 in front !!
i bought for my car, here in Lebanon, front pads from the dealer in 110$,zimmerman 13,6" discs in 210$,very cheap, you will have to pay 1000$ for the 8 pot set...
hope i was helpful for all of you guys.

Thanks a lot Ziad! That's exactly what I was looking for. I know the cost is gonna be pretty high, but running a parts store has its advantages Labor wont be an issue either as I was a tech for 10 years and still have access to a lift and still have all my tools.
When I replace the rotors on my car, I figure if I'm gonna spend more than $200 per rotor, I might as well improve the system while I'm at it.

It's going to be a while before I do anything with the brakes again. I just spent $800 for tires and $100 on the motor mounts.

Well, I prety much exhausted most of my sources today at work. I was able to find a company that had a set of 4 piston front calipers in stock at their werehouse on Philly. So I ordered those in. I figured for $60 a caliper I couldn't go wrong. So in a couple days I'll have the 4 piston calipers and the cross drilled factory rotors from the '03-'04 model. I still have some phone calls to make in the search for the 6 pots, but I am not holding my breath. I even called Brembo to see if I could get the 6 piston calipers from them. They fed me the whole "Because we are the OEM supplier, there is an exclusivity clause in the contract with AMG. We aren't allowed to sell them to you. You would have to get them from MB." Well, I called the dealer here and they told me that there weren't any avalilable. The guy at Brembo did try to sell me a big brake package for $3100.

So after many, many, many phone calls and e-mails to various suppliers I have come to the conclusion that there are no 6 pot calipers out there unless you buy them in a big brake kit from StopTech, Brembo or someone else. I will have to live with the 4 piston calipers that I got from Nugeon and the rotors from Balo. Guess I'll be watching Ebay for a while.

After $337.40 I have 4 piston calipers, cross drilled rotors, new pads and brake hoses. Wish I could have found the 6 pots but, like I said, no one had any. All that stuff was still cheaper than spending $215 a piece for new rotors.
