Audio via Bluetooth

Hi,
I just picked up a 2012 s550. The brochure said that the music on an IPhone can be streamed via Bluetooth. I can't find anything about it in the manual or on the Comand system. Does anyone know anything about this. I know that there is a jack in the glovebox

Can't speak for iPhones but my Samsung Android streams audio (music and radio) via Bluetooth with no problem.I'd be surprised if the same wasn't true of iPhones as well...at least the most recent ones.Just click on the dropdown list under "audio" and you'll see something like "stream" or "bluetooth" (can't exactly recall). It should be easy...hell,even *I* can do it so it *must* be easy.

Going the "wired" route is certainly an option but if you take that route you probably won't need to buy anything. My Bluetec came standard with an iPod/iPhone cable adapter and I'd bet yours did too.If it didn't it almost certainly should have...although I'm not entirely familiar with the S Class's standard eqipment.

I cannot believe on an S class you have to buy the multimedia interface plus gizmo to be able to stream music while its built into the command system on the W212 e class !!!!! WTF ...

you shouldn't need to buy a plug on a 2012. We have a 2012 ML and it streams via bluetooth. my dad's 2010 S class doesnt' have blue tooth streaming so he can't at all.

I just picked up a 2012 S350 Bluetec and, while not a feature that I use, I was surprised to see it missing in the S. I had it in my E350 Bluetec. While the E is using COMAND NTG 4.5, the S is using the older COMAND NTG 3.5. There are add-ons that plug into the ipod connector, but, you lose the ability to plug in an iPod, and, I find the sound quality better with a directly connected iPod Vs. Bluetooth Audio. In any event, it is pretty lame that MB would omit a feature from their flagship sedan that is available in vitually all of their other vehicles. Go Figure. I will say that I find the HK system in the S to have a much better bass response than the HK system in my E. I would not have thought that the slightly larger woofers in the front doors would make such a difference.

I agree with everything ImInPA says. Traded in the 2011 e350 that had streaming audio via Bluetooth (both Itunes and Pandora) and not a feature on my 2013 S550. And also agree that the HK standard system in the S is 1,000 times better than the HK system in the E. My wife always told me there was something wrong with the "radio" in the E. Now I see what she was talking about... S is so much better.

mercedes 2011 CLS550 with AMG package
2012 s550

I purchased the Media In..... And it is HORRIBLE because it does NOT allow bluetooth / conversations to work properly. It is a total cluster .........

This car has disappointed be me beyond what words can describe due to my consistent bluetooth issues as well as the bluetooth streaming. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Most of the time it does not work. I have had this car since aug 31' 2012 and have had nothing but bad things to say about the ENTIRE bluetooth and streaming systems.

WORTHLESS. And mercedes keeps telling. That they are aware of the issues and they are working in it.

Issues on bluetooth alone
While in a conversation the radio comes on and if you wave your phone (iphone 5) like a bird flaps their wings. The phone conversation comes back. . The iphone 4 had the same issue)

My advice is not to waste your money ......

Also ALL the other mercedes cars E and C class work PERFECT and I would give them a 100%. The s on the other hand gets a -(10%)

RobertM: Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. I have not had any issues with Bluetooth in my 2012 S350. It is missing the audio streaming, but, everything else works very well. The S definitely works as well as my E did. 10k miles and no issues so far. Maybe you should see a dealer and make sure that all of the software is up to date. There could be an update for your BT issues.

You can you use an a/v input device like the nav tv w221cam which gives you a/v imput if you dont have the factorty ipod wire. Then use a cool stream device from amazon for $40 and you will be able to stream music. If you already have the iPod wire, you just need the cool stream. A company called cartronics used to make a similar device. Just sinc phone and choose aux on your audio options in command.

When MB facelifted W221s , they should have updated NTG 3.5 so as to work with NTG 4.0 or updated versions .I think 2012 S65 still uses NTG 3.5
I believe W222s to become just as perfect as W212s in bluetooth streaming
Bluetooth streaming is very cool and thanks to that system I updated my phone's tracks / albums but in regards to audio quality CD is still the winner

steam music

I had same problem like this before, then I just used a BT adapter I got from viseeousa.com to be able to stream music via bluetooth. It works fine and the sound quality is excellent. I have the WMA3000A with built in AMI cable by the way.

age and comand system fitted ?

up to 2008/9, where a MUST phone system or prep is fitted, in the centre arm rest you have a UHI socket that the pictured SAP handset (or the more modern BT puck) clips into. It replaces a static install of a mobile phone and either the static or now Bluetooth connected device ONLY does phone calls

SAP is a clever way to steal via BT the actual phone's SIM card data.... few use it now and its never been supported by Apple

Later cars got the same looking comand but inside all different and BT phone calls where build in. But BT streamed music is another game of soldiers and you be better off searching for the thread this year that goes in to huge detail how and or buy an addon that takes the car into the 21 century with another recent thread about joyeauto https://www.joyeauto.com/product/wjm...uto-interface/

no, you have the earlier NTG 3.0 and its complex

if you have the UHI socket in the centre console u can BT phone only via an addon (like your pic) , otherwise you need to add extras in todays world, the joyeauto is the BEST way forward - it will be by far the CHEAPEST and most user friendly way forwads for an "integrated" solution that's close to what modern cars have and will get you past the OLD maps issue as well

don't continue with this old thread

use this to go the complex expensive and almost impossible to locate OLD Merc orgi bodge on solution

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...questions.html

or this to be in the modern world

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...y-my-w221.html

or this if you want an android mess (that should last at least 3 weeks before it breaks)

That depends on your parameters for "easy".

There is a fairly simple and cheap way to do this. I've done it, and it works pretty well. Not perfect, but well enough for the money and time spent. You will need to have the AUX input enabled on your COMAND system. If you don't see AUX as an input selection choice (along with AM, FM, Weather band, CD, etc.) then it will need to be enabled. That's a five minute job with the diagnostic tools, but DOES need to be done. If you don't have XENTRY/DAS then you'll need to visit the dealer or a shop that does have the tool. I already had the M-B Star Trek looking device installed, which works great for phone calls but only for phone calls. The new device works for streaming music or whatever, but only that.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/402281299527 (If that item is gone, search Fleabay for "12v 12pin bluetooth 4.0 W221")

It's a very inexpensive Bluetooth adapter. Pull the COMAND unit out of the dash, connect the little dongle to power and plug it into the back of the unit. I actually had to remove the three audio pins (ground, left, and right) from the connector they supplied and insert them into the plug that was already there, but it's not rocket surgery.

When you're done, you'll see two Bluetooth devices, one for your car (MB PhoneSystem) and one for the BT dongle (Chelink CarElite is what mine says). You'll want your phone connected to both. Now you can listen to music via your phone by selecting the Aux input. My only gripe is that the volume level is a little lower than the radio, so I have to adjust the volume when switching audio sources. Different brands may or may not be better. There are no controls whatsoever on the BT dongle. Based on what I learned from doing this, you could use pretty much any BT receiver connected to the M-B system in the same way. It's just three wires to connect to the car's AUX input. You're limited only by your level of comfort or expertise in dealing with electrical connectors.

Edit: Here's my original post about it: Bluetooth Músic - MBWorld.org Forums
