Cover for alcantara wheel?

I don't want my MB mechanic to get oil and grease on my E63 alcantara-covered steering wheel when he services it. Anyone know where I'd find a cover?

If you are really worried about it then you could just buy a generic cover at an auto parts store. I do not see why they would not fit, not like it has to be a perfect fit. Or Google disposable steering wheel covers and buy a roll of those.

They will probably just wear the same gloves they were wearing when working on the car. Then it's the same.

I still think kitchen saran is the easiest, most accessible, and cheapest. Besides, everyone has it in the kitchen.

Yeah, take it off to keep the cover clean and put it back on at the end of the work with all the grease and dirt covered underneath LOL.

thats gonna be a big worry... i had bad experiences when dropping off my m5 a couple of times.. im sure they put a couple of nics in my steering wheel leather. then i had it in to replace the drivers seat leather (seat portion only, non warranty, paid for by me) and when i picked it up there was a big ugly wrinkle in the seat back that wasnt there before. of course they denied it was caused by them and refused to fix it.

i never went back there for service, or another car. i traded in the m5 and ordered a 2012 cls63

I have a friend who took his car in for some sort of recall and it was something that there would be zero need for them to drive the car. He got the car back with a huge gash in the rear seats leather. Looked like someone sat down in it with a screwdriver in their back pocket. Needless to say he was a big pissed off about the situation since definitely was zero need for anyone to even be in the backseat. That dealership did pay for the leather to be replaced but I think only after a verbal fight over it.

It's always scary to think what else is going on with your car when it is being serviced. I would rather just do everything myself to avoid the hassle. However, they are making everything so difficult...even the jacking up of the car is a problem now. I wonder if they would allow me in the work area so I can watch them like a vulture.

How has jacking up a car become an issue?

I can't find a central location (no engine cross member in the front, and can't jack under the differential in the rear) where I can jack up the car evenly to put on the stands. The emergency jack is kind of flimsy at the emergency jacking point. The same slot for jacking up the car is also used for the stand...so that's a problem. There's no way I'm getting under something like that without jack stands.

There must be a way. Perhaps try to see where a lift pushes on on the car to get some ideas where the jack can go.

Staying well off-topic , I'll never use a MB emergency jack again after the one in my wife's W211 collapsed - or at least slid away on a concrete floor. All the fancy advances in technology, mostly of dubious benefit, but the basics just don't improve.

Sliding away?! Holy $#@%! Okay, that's the last straw. I'm just going to let the service dept do all the work on the car. Ain't gonna risk my life or a limb just to save a few bucks.

I can definitely see that happening on a concrete floor, especially if there is some grease around. I was kind of thinking of that possibility when I saw the design of MB jack for the first time and the precaution diagram in the manual. Why don't they just stay with the good old tried-and-true scissor jack design that has been around for who knows how long?!

There is a cross bar on the front with a plastic block on it.
I have jacked the front of the car up from that point.
Once lifted, I was able to get jack stands in place also.

Thanks. That's good info. Having a central jack up point like that will be really helpful. I wonder if I can jack the front high enough to put the stands for the rear two jacking slots before lowering the front to the ground. I have heard people doing similar from the back end, ie jack up back high enough to put stands on the front two slots.

Yes, a photo would be really helpful.
