Pricing help on leftover 2016...
Hi Guys...
Looking to possibly buy a leftover '16 on the lot at my local dealer. What kind of discount should I ask for? And, any ideas on trunk money on leftover '16 GTS cars?
Thanks in advance!

What are the 2016 and 2017 percentage discount off of the MSRP?
I ask because I think Vic posted EARLIER what dealer cost is in percentage of the MSRP.
Also, what other charges are part of the deal? Dealer prep, TT&L and shipping?
Is there a trade involved?

We can then figure out the percentage the discounts are.

Others here who are more knowledgeable will validate my calculations which is more than welcome;
2016 at $148k Dealer Cost = $118k $30k Dif Dealer Disc $18k Gross Dealer Profit $22k
2017 at $151k Dealer Cost = $121k $30k Dif Dealer Disc $11k Gross Dealer Profit $20k
Dealer add ons and up charges are extra. I usually have a "spirited" conversation with the dealer finance rep who is closing the deal and trying to add on $500 or so for paperwork. My answer is Here's my check. Now sign and give me the Certificate of Original Orgin and a Bill Of Sale and I'll go to the DMV.
Recommendation: I would go with the 2017
As you already know, if you had a trade you would pay sales tax on the dif between the trade value and the agreed sales price. Depending on where you are and the value of these cars that's a fairly large amount.
Enjoy your negotiations.

Sorry for the question, but what is upgraded dealers? Like newer, remodeled dealers?
So I'm guessing I should expect 12% at a minimum in addition to what the dealer contributes in terms of their discount?
Thanks in advance!

Regarding markup, I'm not sure where you guys get your numbers. Total markup is 11.5%, from msrp to dealer cost. So getting 8-9% off MSRP is really a bargain IMO on a 17.

I am assuming you wouldn't expect any concessions in the other dealer add on's if you were to receive a 8% discount right?

Everything is negotiable for the most part.
FYI, there is no MBUSA Cash Back Incentives on the GT/GTS, 16 or 17.

Its not a proprietary thing here.... There is a gap from msrp to invoice and then there is holdback which the dealer has behind the invoice. Stores can vary on their full discount based on if they are an AMG Performance Center or not. General rule is about 11.50% from MSRP to triple net (all of the holdback) but usually its about 6% from MSRP to invoice and then the additional 5.5% in holdback. One of my local stores is NOT an AMG Performance store so their full range is 11.75% from top to bottom.
I once posted the formula but that was a long time ago.
So assume on a 150k msrp car that the dealer is a full 12% from MSRP to holdback, then the their triple net price is 132 but I doubt you see many dealers going that low on 17's... maybe on an aged 16 unit that is soaking up interest via flooring charges or has be written down monthly.

Now is a good time to get a leftover model for sure.

I am sure you will agree that it is a well accepted business practice.

My "dealer" is owned by MBUSA (the only dealer in the USA), so no, they would not accept us selling inventory at cost.
However, when you need to make a deal/reach target figures, anything is possible.

It's better than selling at a triple net loss.

May I ask what dealer is willing to do these deals? I am currently in the market.
BTW, Just making a random call on a 17 GT and the manager told me over the phone on a first call he would discount $10k off a $121k sticker car. That was without any negotiating.
