Disconnecting battery - long term - issues?

Guys, Im planning on sending a 2005 C230 overseas, where it will be parked for the majority of the year, and driven maybe 2 months each year. The other 10 months, it will stored, however, Im wondering if there are any issues with disconnecting the battery long term. Someone I know had a problem doing this on a new X3, so maybe this is the case as well on our new cars.

If there are issues taking out thebattery long term, then I might put a battery maintainer on it, but Im just trying to see if that is necessary.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks..
