Exploding water pumps?
I remember when they had plastic impellers in the 5 series, early 90's.
At 50K miles they'd disintegrate, overheat, clog the rad,
a real mess. What could possess someone to make plastic water pumps?
So Mercedes is agreeing to replace this hose?
I wonder what made them decide to fix them for free, and not deal with the
Valeo rad. issue?

Yeah, that's exactly what would happen. I guess they didn't learn their lesson. Apparently the problem is with all e36s except for the latest model years. It also seems that the metal replacement pump isn't so reliable either. Of course, the e36 328i is about as fast as our cars in a straight and as for handling, well....

I'll be writing a letter after this week to MBUSA as the same exact thing happened to me. Of course, you might have some trouble if you're talking about your '02 coupe as it's not m271.

Ha, I pay my own way. My dad has a '04 C230SS (I want to steal his aero wipers )
I talked to my SA and he gave me a number at MBUSA to call. I called and left a message so we'll see. My SA volunteered to help if MBUSA doesn't respond well.

The replacement of the PCV hoses (upper & lower) is true, and it's not just a Service Campaign, but it's now a full-fledged recall.
Just found out today that I've got the dreaded cam sensor oil leak (Check Engine light came on yesterday).
In discussing with the SA what MB could do to 'help' the situation (they're picking up the tab for the 2 ECUs, O2 Sensor, revised cam sensors & wiring harness - $1300 in all; I pay for labor - Thanks MB of South Charlotte!), I asked them to check on the PCV hoses & they advised that both the upper & lower would be replaced under recall.
They also checked the radiator (no Valeo, thank god) while in it. If you're in Charlotte & need service, I'd take it to them first.
I guess that paying the labor is painful enough, but I'm thankful that MB is going to cover the parts (cam sensor leaks . . . PCV hoses are covered parts & labor). It probably helped that the car had been back to the dealer for each service. It's a little more $$$ up front, but it helped when trying to convince them to cover some part of the repair (as it was a known issue - although certainly out of warranty - 92k miles).
If you've got an M271, I would strongly urge you to go to MB & have the revised cam sensors installed . . . the cost is minimal compared to the damage possible (>$2500 quoted initially) if they leak oil into the wiring harness!!!

Interesting, I wonder how this will work over on west coast Canada. I haven't had ANY problems with the Coupe yet so hopefully this won't be a problem later on down the road.

Got my hose fixed today...Car runs great now, gas mileage is way up, I can't believe how much power is lost, and how much gas is wasted by a defect in that hose...

Yes you can. Its a service campaign. Take it right away. Getting my car back tomorrow.
Today as i took my car to the dealer, I wanted to say something to my SA but decided not to. So he did not want to give me a loaner because my car passed the factory warranty which is 50k/4years. I currently took my car last month due to the service engine light was on. My car was over 50k/less than 4 years then and he offered me a loaner. So the point is because this is a service campaign(which is free) then he can't lend me a loaner because there is no chance at all that im paying! So at that time there is a 50/50 chance that i was going to pay because if the 100k warranty didn't cover the part(it was an O2 sensor) and thats why he lends me a damn loaner!!!.The dealerships are real f*****g ********!!!
