DIY: Instrument Gauge Cluster Removal; Screen Replacement
#79
I bought one off eBay for about $110 bucks.
However, I F!#$% up when I was popping back the locking tab that keeps the ribbon secured, I broke it. Now the ribbon won't stay in...
any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

^ Can you use a small dab of Krazy Glue or Gorilla Glue?
Also, who did you buy the screen from? eBay seems to be hit or miss in terms of screen quality.

I bought my ribbon from this Sergiy dude. - http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-DISPLAY-FOR-MERCEDES-W203-C-CLASS-2000-2007-NEW/181489826226?_trksid=p2050601.c100271.m3466&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140716145905%26meid%3D8934365828619611946%26pid%3D100271%26prg%3D20140716145905%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D181489826226%26clkid%3D8934635356340203845&_qi=RTM1562569
quality seems decent, i've also heard good things about German Audio Tech.

I probably could get the ribbon to stay using a glue substance, however I have a feeling that might also disturb the conductivity within that connector. It might be a last-resort type of thing before I have to go and research individual motherboard components all to replace a freekin piece of plastic.

I'll be installing this week and will report back on the quality.

Install went pretty much as easy as expected. Met a bit of resistance while trying to undo the ribbon cable clip, but found you have to push both down at the same time with quite a bit of localized force right on the little gray ears.
New LCD looks as good as I could have ever hoped

This sounds dumb, but either of you try looking at the panel while wearing polarized sunglasses?
I've read somewhere on one of these forums that some displays have the polarization angle set incorrectly (90 degrees to what it should be), making it impossible to see when wearing those shades. Wondering if that problem applies to this batch.

On my facelift it has 'proper' polarization, but if you tilt your head the screen starts turning black. I bet you don't need to look at that screen too often though. No big deal.
