I used the diy and it worked great! Thank you!
I also found oil in the throttle body and cleaned it up. I have a sneaky feeling that this is from the vacuum hose recall that happened in 2004 or 2005.
I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow since I got this car used, and see if they did the recall for the vacuum hoses. That could be spitting oil.
If you want to do the same, the recall code is:
2008020002
I also accidentally pulled the foam coil from the front air intake, which seemed to unravel a little. Does anyone use a more reliable hose for this??

What size/kind of screwdriver do I need to purchase to remove the 2 screws mentioned? It looks like a female torx. I am going to go out and buy a set so I can start doing some engine work myself. Thanks!

Thanks for the write up. I cleaned my TB today and found that it was worth removing the entire throttle body to get the other side of it cleaned. It was much much dirtier than the front facing side of the TB. I too found some residual oil.
Thanks

It was a pain to find, but here is the O-ring gasket I see on my 2004 C230
Throttle Housing Gasket - Throttle Housing to Intake Manifold
I had originally tried to source it at the dealer but they gave me a flat fiber gasket as shown in the parts drawing item#5 p/n: 271 141 12 80
it wasn't until I pulled the throttle body off that I realized I was duped

Thank you for the detailed information. With your help I was able to remove and clean my TB. There was oil also in mine. If you want to clean your TB my advice is to remove the TB completely because the real dirty area is the rear side. You just need to remove 4 screws and the wiring plug which is very easy. Now, I wait for the new gasket from my parts store. #271 141 10 80
I need to mention that it was not needed at all to remove the 2 torx screws that are down below. The hose was flexible enough.
Now, I have plans to remove and clean the other TB that is located on the supercharger (that regulates the boost by directing the air through the SC or directly to the intake manifold). You can see it on onehighfocus's pics as #4. Also I think I will need that flat gasket that he mentioned, #5. It seems that I will not need to remove the whole SC but just the part #3.
Does any one know how to deal with it? Or is it worth cleaning?

Did you have to do an idle relearn?? I did this to my Altima and had to go through the idle relearn procedure. I want to this to my C230k but am worried about the idle getting messed up.

No.
No idling issues after cleaning. Everthing worked as usual.
I did the same on my previous car, slk200k with M111 engine. Also there was no issues about idle relearn on that.

I did the throttle body removal this morning. Everything went okay except when reattaching the hose. It would not go back onto the orange gasket over the TB. I tried everything, pressing down on the hose, maneuvering it, and nothing worked. I have done this before but for some reason it would not fit this time. The hose eventually came off of the second clamp that clamps onto the intercooler hose below so now I am stuck with the plastic tubing not attached to anything. I'm not sure what I should do now to try and get it back on because it is very awkward to get back on both ends.
Any suggestions?

those two hex screws SUCK. It's an e10 torx bit BUT the ****er doesn't come off w/ a regular ratchet. You need a vertical one cuz there's no room. I tried. I even removed the windshield wiper plastic hose to no avail.
