Whining noise on acceleration
Hi, hope someone can shed a little light on this. I have a 2001 Merc c180 coupe auto petrol, only do 70,000 miles and drives like new. The only issue is when I'm on a motorway, going say 60mph with foot off the accelerator, then press gradually, there is a whining/smooth rumble from either underneath or to front, if i let off the gas a little it stops. not noticeable on 'A Roads' Only seems to happen when in drive accelerating but not hard.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Does it happen when you are stationary & rev the car as well? If so it could be a torque converter.
If not check rear transmission mount, Flex discs on the propshaft & centre propshaft bearing. Meke sure that exhaust shield are not touching anything.
Can also be a diff pinion bearing that has lost preload.
When last was the transmission serviced. s/b every 39K miles or 60K Km's. Check fluid level.
