I found a c230 that has a bad ECU and the owner has given up on fixing. Does anyone know of anywhere other than a dealer in the Pittsburgh area that could fix this?

Don't they have to be paired with the car by a dealer or someone with the correct tools?

It should to be coded by tuning companies or programmers or dealer, for starting authorization..

I went to lok at this car today. The car runs and drives perfect. If you didn't see it flashing five codes at you, and saying is 185 degrees outside, you'd never know it.

How can a ECU be this bad and the car run perfectly fine? Could it be something else?

Call a dealership and ask what they would charge to do it....then minus from buying price of the car. If the owner already reduced price of car by amount it cost to get fixed then buy it if you like everything else about it. Done!

But is the diagnosis of a bad ECU correct if the car still runs perfect?

In your beginning post , you mentioned ECU is bad, for that i gave some solutions..!,

anyway; if the car runs perfect, means ECU is working fine & it's very good sign,,

you just need to go to any good garage to diagnose the car, and see what codes it could contains..

Its displaying at least 5 bad codes. A "regular" garage said they did all they could with their non benz specific tools.

This car runs too well. It has to be an obvious fix. What isit?

While the car runs perfect, then don't worry,

but prefer if you can go to good garage that has MB STAR/SDS, to diagnose the car well, to know what it need for NOW & FUTURE..

It won't pass emissions inspection the way it is.

I am concerned about buying this car, and then spending a fortune fixing it. It doesn't have much book value.

Well, get him to give you the codes it's throwing, then. You can then get a guess as to how expensive the repairs will be.

But I'd still say it's a total crap shoot, even knowing the codes. Eventually, you'll still have to ask yourself if you feel like risking it.

From the seller:

Restraint system
Srs- which I think is the same thing as above
Brake lining- and I remember the garage saying
About this one and they said brakes where fine
Battery/alternator
Display Fault- if it's faulty ways it show all these codes?
Check engine-abs-and srs lights on.
The thermometer also says its 185 degrees outside.

It also will discharge the battery if left connected overnight.

This may be a wrecked car restored on the cheap. I'd be cautious of all the SRS codes.

I was hoping to pick this car up cheap, fix it, drive it then resell for a profit but considering its worth less than a honda civic of the same year, I think it might be a bad investment.

It's pretty easy - future upkeep is factored into values. Hondas have much less future repairs with much cheaper parts.

Your so lucky if Honda parts is much cheaper..!, Honda parts here are more EXPENSIVE than Bentley parts..
