Don't worry about your oil. Change it whenever you want to. And while you are at it, you can save more money by using regular gas instead of premium. Another saving tip is to not wash it. Dirt accumulation will make it heavier. This will have the benefit of lowering your car and thereby assisting your tires with providing added traction during inclimate weather.

don't cheap out, if you can't afford service A and service B once a yr, you don't deserve to own the car period...

the problem is oil degrade over time, after sitting in your engine for a year, even if you only drive let's say 5,000 miles, the oil would still degrade to a point that it can no longer get the job done due to reasons such as oxidation, deposits, thermal degration & corrosion...

the synthetic oil MB use actually is rated for 15k miles OR 12 month depend on which ever came up first...so just follow the schedule and change your oil either every 13k miles or every yr..since you are in so cal, there should be tons of coupon and you should have no problem get service A at around $200 and service B at around $300..

I changed my oil at 3800 miles (that was after 1 year). It's not the car, it's the driver when you're dealing with snow. I don't chain anything up, I have Z-rated summer tires. It handles fine in the snow for me, the traction control lights up like a christmas tree. I have other cars for the winter use. This was a spur of the moment purchase.

After reading this thread, I am astounded at the unsubstantiated "conventional wisdom". Open the owner's manual, look for the maintenance section, and do what it says, whether at a dealer or other competent shop. The oil change concept is simple, time or mileage, whichever comes FIRST. The intervals were developed by the company who designed the engine. Why is this so difficult?

What does the owner's manual show? When you ask us, you risk one of us getting it wrong. Read the book!!

That is the correct mileage and has been since 2005. Yes, it's expensive but a transmission replacement due to neglect would be "slightly" more.

A Service - $99 to $199
B Service - $229 to $299
brake fluid flush - $99 to $129
coolant flush - $99 to $129
power steering flush - $99 to $129
transmission drain & flush - $299 to $349
4-wheel alignment - $99 - $129

these are from my past experiences servicing 04 c240, 06 c230 & 08 c300..
most of the time I will servey and see what service special other northern california dealers have & let my dealer price match it..
if I really need to get the service done and no good coupon available, then look for dollar off coupons will work too..

ya I saw them flush everything, it was 300 for oil change and transmission oil change. I guess it wasn't that bad of a deal.
