PHILIPS H7 55W Crystal Vision or Philips Diamond Vision 5000k?
Hello,
I want to go for the xenon look and I was wondering which one I should go for. I have heard the Diamond Vision does not provide good visibility especially during the rain. Which bulbs should I purchase?

they both suck. don't do it, unless you never drive above 40mph at night. they are literally not even legal for road use by the DoT because they put out so little light.

Stayed with stocks bulbs. My friend (MB E class W211) get the wiring melted (costly wiring harness replaced), MB dealer do not help because the bulb (more kevin) draw too much electric power, too hot, melted the wiring. Be sure that the new light bulbs draw the same power as stock bulbs. May be the after market xenon is better (draw less power). Check into it before made your decision.

2004 Subaru WRX & 2009 Kawasaki ZX6r
The only way to get that look would be a retrofit. I've retrofitted my 04 Subaru WRX and my 09 Kawasaki ZX6r. I am looking to purchase a 2012 C300 and that will be the only modification I really plan to perform. But you need to install projectors for both a clean look (instead of blasting light everywhere like a pissed off civic) and proper light. There is a massive difference between plugging in bulbs and changing to a system that can properly handle the light.
the attached picture is of my bike, top picture is the plug and play bulbs in halogen projectors, bottom is with proper HID projectors.

If you're looking for xenon look, just go with a xenon/hid upgrade. You have OEM projectors which are ok, but the proper way is as scubaru states, to retrofit true HID projectors, although as a DIY, it's not for everyone as not everyone wants to bake their headlights.
35W HID kit won't melt anything.

thanks for all the replies. At this time I just want to go for a simple bulb swap of my low beams and not a xenon conversion. I am concerned about the night time visibility and lifespan of the bulbs. Also does the DRL use the low or high beam? Crystalvision vs DiamondVision --pros/cons?

If you do any night time or dark driving, I would strongly advice not to get the Diamond Vision bulbs.
Yes, they give off that white/blue tint, but the light output is terrible. I can maybe see a car length ahead of me in darkness.
Any sort of fog, forget about it. It's almost dangerous.
I'll be switching mine out when they burn out. Hopefully soon.

crystal and diamon vision are the same, they are halogen bulbs coated in a blue tint to block out yellow light. if the bulbs have higher color temperature, they are blocking even more yellow light and have even less light output.
your first concern was addressed. You will be driving a death-trap on the highway with low-output bulbs. your second concern doesn't matter, they are literally halogen bulbs with a blue coating to mechanically block yellow light, you will get no more or no less longevity out of low-output bulbs compared to regular bulbs.
you will be disappointed. save your money and do it right.

Yes you are right, the correct way would be to retrofit the HID unit but I just do not want to mess with the wiring, install the ballast, projectors, etc. I understand that both bulbs I mentioned will not exactly look like the factory xenon but I just want to purchase a halogen bulb that will make my OEM lights look whiter and brighter. I know the drawbacks of the Diamond Vision are the low light output and difficulty to find the bulbs and I don't think they are DOT compliant. I know that the CrystalVision Ultra 4000k are DOT compliant and I have not heard it reducing visibility, in fact many say the bulbs are brighter than OEM. So far the forum members are advising against it but are there any forum members out there that actually recommends these bulbs (particularly the Crystal Vision ?) If not then I will just stick to OEM. On my next vehicle I will be sure to purchase it with the factory xenons. Thanks!

its mechanically impossible for a "white light" bulb to be brighter than a standard bulb. If they claim their bulb is brighter, they are full of crap. That's saying that a bulb which is covered in a coating specifically designed to block out a chunk of the visible light spectrum is somehow brighter than a completely clear standard bulb.
These bulbs are not magic. You can't pass current through a standard filament and get white light.

I have the Philips Crystal Vision in my fog lights. They're a little bit whiter than other halogen bulbs, but nowhere near an HID look as advertised. I've never tried the Diamond Vision bulbs, but did try a similar MTEC bulb. They were very white, but I ended up taking them out because on sunny days when my fog lights were not on, the blue bulb reflecting in the fog light housing made my fog lights look blue.

Inspection
Did anyone have any trouble passing an inspection w/ the diamond visions installed? I know they’re technically “illegal” for the US market so just curious if anyone was harassed about these.
