2005 C55 Intake Manifold Gaskets Do it yourslf or something similar?
The lower intake manifold hose just snapped from age on my C55 and for the heck of me I can not find a DIY tutorial on how to replace the intake gaskets. I have found a thread that goes over the manifold hose inside and how much of a risk it is to try and fix of but nothing on the gaskets and removing the intake. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks (Maybe just a do it yourself on intake install?) One more thing, I also need the torque specs if possible. Thanks

Right forum, maybe its not a common thing to do. Which hose are you referring to? A picture would be great. The breather hoses commonly crack but I haven't gone any deeper into the engine.
I would get a copy of WIS from ebay if you want to have the full workshop manual to refer to. They always list all the torque values.

I tried to print out the section of the WIS on intake manifold removal, but my printer at home is not liking me, so I printed it to a .XPS file (whatever that is). It managed to open just now on my work computer, but let me know if you can't access it.
Generally speaking though, it's a fairly straightforward process. You should be able to keep the injectors in place, but you do need to disconnect the fuel line. Then just disconnect everything else that's there. There are a bunch of intake manifold bolts, they torque to 20 Nm. I've done it a few times, so I have the lay of the land, but you may want to take a photo to ensure you recall where all the vacuum lines run. Good luck, it's really not that difficult. Should be able to sort it out in an afternoon, including a beer or two to help with the process!
EDIT: nevermind re: .XPS. Mbworld wouldn't let me upload that kind of file, but I managed to print it on the office computer, and have now scanned it to PDF.

Let me first start off by saying Thank You Very Much Saaboteur for taking the time to scan that PDF! The torque value advice was also greatly appreciated. tw2, thank you for your response also. The vacuum line that snapped is in the front center of the manifold and the outlet is underneath. It is virtually impossible for somebody with average sized hands to get in there at all. This was a big design flaw (IMO) with Mercedes because the vacuum line is made out of rubber and with the combination of heat and age how could it last. Anyway, this helped me out a lot. One more question for you Saaboteur, what do you suggest for the torque pattern? Thank you very much!

If you are OCD, you can criss cross, starting from the middle. But 20nm is like 14 ft lbs, ie. f*ck all, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not like it's taking a lot of load from mechanical forces, just air flowing through it. I don't think I paid any attention to torque pattern when I did the job before.

I often do a criss cross pattern in 3-4 passes for these sorts of things. I start with finger tight then 5Nm followed by 10 and finally 20Nm but i tend to go overboard. Its not a head gasket.
