I regularly have an oil analysis done on my cars at each oil change and I just received the results for my first oil analysis on the C63. The M177 engine seems be happy and doing quite well. This is after 10137 miles on the factory oil with nothing added in between the oil change.

Comments from the report:

You get the honor of sending us the first sample from the new AMG 4.0L Bi-turbo engine. The averages you see are based on the 5.5L AMG, and we'll have a better idea of what's normal as samples are added to the average file. You can assume wear-in material is present in this sample, and we expect that at least copper and silicon will come down next time. Other wear metals may also show improvement at the next oil change, eventually settling into steady wear trends. The oil was in excellent condition, with no contamination to speak of. Just check back.

No track time, but let's just called it "spirited driving" and it wasn't babied the first 1000 miles.

Just want to verify: this is your first oil change or did you have an oil change done when the diff service was done at 1875 miles? And it sounds like you did not have to add any oil over the course of those 10k miles?

This is the first oil change. It's the oil that came in the car. Didn't have to add a drop in 10K miles.

Good to know. I'm curious. What anomalies have you found in past years with these tests. ?

I've used them to catch engine bearings starting to wear, leaking head gaskets, failing center sections on turbos etc. Those were high strung street and race cars though.

For daily drivers, you can determine when an oil is breaking down and needs an earlier change interval and things of that nature. You rarely see other problems on modern cars. But IF something was happening, there's a chance you can catch it early.

I guess it's a car geek thing I like to do...

I used to use Blackstone when I had a built engine in my 01' B5 S4. Those 2.7T engines were stout, but extremely fussy -- it's particularly useful in diagnosing internal engine issues early before more serious problems arise.

Useful when my built engine was running upwards of 700 HP with no warranty... but I'm not too sure about spending additional money with each oil change on the C63 when you have a 4 yr/50k mile warranty on the entire drivetrain -- although I understand the appeal of geeking out/OCD'ing over the oil reports

By not babied, do you mean that you used a more aggressive break in technique? Like the Motoman?

I would call it similar to the Motoman technique. I drove it a bit to make sure everything was OK and let things settle in. Then it was off to to races (not literally) and enjoying the car.

I'm at 19,000 miles now and haven't had to add any oil between changes. I'm using the factory change schedule this time instead of the 5000 mile intervals I've used on other vehicles in the past.

What's prompted the change in behavior from 5k to factory? I'm a poet, and I didn't know it (Bwahahahahahah)!!!!! Sorry.... Couldn't resist. I don't think I can do it... Even on leased cars, the ethical side of me wouldn't let me go much past 5K for changes. I am buying this one, and I don't plan on going past 5k.

Another digression, but does anyone know how the dealers do the oil changes on these cars? Is it a top change or a bottom pan change?

The oil analysis after 10,000 miles showed the oil was in excellent condition, so at this point it doesn't need to be changed sooner. The car holds nearly 10 quarts of oil too.
