Any thoughts on a discretionary transmission fluid change?
I'm thinking of changing the transmission fluid at 14k miles. My guess is that the fluid is getting/has gotten plenty hot on numerous occasions...that plus getting rid of the break-in debris in general makes me think this would be a good thing. My dealer says $400 to do it the right way which seems to be the (fair) going rate. Any thoughts to the contrary?

i think i changed my at service A for the same reasons that you have written. never hurts just to be safe if you don't mind paying for the cost of the transmission fluid.

I always like to change the transmission fluid early. You are at 14,000 miles, which is perhaps a bit too early, (I'd do it around 25,000 to 30,000 miles, unless you drive the car very hard).
Going rate for a transmission fluid change at the dealer should be in the $300-$400 range. So your quote of $400 seems about right. There's a large amount of fluid (several quarts) and the fluid is costly.

point is that I changed it just to give it a fresh boost and let that cycle through after break in.

I normally try all maintenance myself with great tenacity...But elsewhere on the MB discussions I have read of a fairly involved change of fluid requiring breaking off a tube and replaing it after filling within a fairly narrow temperature range. A bit intimidating, but I have not given up the idea.
