Angry About 30 Days ...

... I had it before it broke. Long start, cranks, then misfiring, then shuts down with check engine light. Oh the joy. Still on the temp tag.

Don't have a scanner so don't know what codes its throwing but it's acting like a crank or cam position sensor or similar.

Any chance it’s related to a battery issue?

I would be surprised if it's related. My battery was replaced 3 weeks ago and I've had zero battery related warnings since then. I drive it most every day and just yesterday I did a ~230 mile day trip in it. Drove it in the garage last night with zero warnings, etc.

Not for nothing, but a car like that looks so sad on a flatbed.

And it doesn't show my tears! My other car is getting PPF'd so now I'm car-less.

They didn't at least offer a loaner? Are you going to lemon law it? If I recalled correctly, the dealership can remotely read the codes from the vehicle.

Dealership is out of loaners for the week. Must be a normal Mercedes service week. The car is only 30 days old so no lemon law ... yet. Hopefully I will hear something this morning.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Hope to hear this morning what's going on. Based on the long crank then misfire, I suspect a crank or cam position sensor.

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this. The symptoms you described, such as long starts, cranking without smooth running, misfiring, and shutting down with the check engine light on, often point to issues with the crank or cam position sensors. These sensors are crucial for engine timing and fuel injection, so any malfunction can lead to the erratic behavior you're experiencing. Additionally, faulty ignition coils or problems with the fuel delivery system might also be causing those pesky misfires and shutdowns. If you have a friend with Xentry or youcanic full system scanner running a full system scan could really help pinpoint the exact issue. Let us know what the dealer finds out.

I see, that stinks, they could had at least offered you a rental at a discounted rate or offer that rental on their expense.

I see, it could be a bad coil or injectors, I think that was an issue on certain SL 63: https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...ml#post8952224

I'm on the same page with the crank and or cam position sensors. Hopefully the dealer will have a diagnosis this morning and I will update. Will be purchasing an OBDII scanner too. Haven't really needed one before now. I turned 62 last week and this is the first time, in my entire adult life, I've had a car towed to the dealer. Have been blessed.

I had previously read that thread. Mine was a left over 2023 model which, since manufacture in 01/2023, sat either on a boat or at the dealer. Car had 25 miles on it when I purchased and I put 2500 miles on it over the last month. When I parked the car on Tuesday it was after a ~250 mile day trip with smooth running. Whatever happened, happened overnight.

At Fletcher-Jones here in Newport Beach, they have an Enterprise office right in their service reception area. If the dealer doesn’t have a loan car, they pay for the rental and Enterprise furnishes the car, which is almost always something like a GLE, etc.

This is good, that is the least the dealership should do when there is no loaner, other than calling ride sharing services, taxi etc.

Just got word it’s the Fuel Pump Control Unit. Not the fuel pump but the robot that controls the fuel pump. Hope to have the car back Friday.
