AMG Maintenance parts
Hey guys, currently own an m3, but I keep seeing white c63's around, and I think I might actually make the switch, to the "hammer" as they refer to the c63 on M forums.. lol
Anyway, i'm a DIY type of guy .. basics like oil, brakes etc.. My question is, will the AMG be any harder to work on than an M car? And also, i've seen some pretty outrageous prices for rotors, there has to be an alternative?
Where are you guys getting your AMG parts from? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hope you make the switch to the dark side. lol
Oil changes and brakes are pretty simple on the C63. Shouldnt be that much harder then M's.
Evosport sells 2 piece rotors for $2,000 for all 4 corners. They are lighter and cheaper then stock rotors.
If you mean AMG aftermarket parts, then there are plenty of great sponsors here that can accommodate your needs.

The C63 isn't any harder to work on then the M3, we have fixed 6 piston calipers up front and 4 pistons calipers in the rear, and the M3 has sliding calipers front and rear. Changing pads are a snap, rotors are a little more expensive but currently evosport is the only game in town, besides OEM. You will definitley get your fix with a C63, the more and torque is incredible. The M3 handles better in the twisties as the C63 tends to roll in the corners, it could be do to it's rear tires. AMG should have put wider tires to put the power down better. I think added wider tires could eliminate this tendency. But straight line accelleration the M3 will get spank everytime. Both cars are similarly equipped, quality of materials are similar as well. I know that the C63 does eat tires and consumes huge amounts of gas, so be aware of that.

I order parts from www.parts.com or www.autohausaz.com or I'll get it from my local dealership, I have a friend in the parts department. And I get them at employee cost.
But typically order whatever, I need from the web.

thanks for the replies guys.
I'm curious as to why rotors are so expensive though, it isn't even carbon ceramic or anything? Can someone enlighten me?
Oh, and AMG which sponsors could i check out for OE AMG parts? thanks!

Solekeeper. You are right. Cast iron indeed. I believe some of the MB crowd may be afraid of too cheap a part. If the Chinese made the rotor I would try it. After many decades I have had good luck with Chinese rotors. Please hold the arrows and slings.

Solekeeper,
I think yopu will be OK. If you are the typical mechanically oriented guy you should be fine. The parts for the Mercedes brakes are expensive but you can find rotor replacements from tirerack. The brake pads are like one big single pad for the 3 front pistons(each side) of each rotor, you could replace the pads with just some cheap C clamps.
Oil changes are self explanatory, no different than any other car. The oil change interval on the BMW are 15,000 miles no?

I guess that you bought headers and a tune to get over the depression of not being able to extend your warranty through MB. Did you try any aftermarket warranties? Think I may do the same thing once the warranty expires if I cannot extend it.
