Power steering fluid boiling over?

For all you track junkies,

how do you deal with this, I had my fluid boiling and seeping out from the power steering cap and then it would drip on the belt and get flung everywhere? I wasn't going that hard (1st track day) but it happened on the 2nd or 3rd session.

Also what tire pressures do you recommend compared to stock daily driving? I run 39 all around on nt05s so for a track day should I expect to bump them up and see from there?

Ran 35 psi all around with NT01 and it was perfect. For power steering fluid did not check yet but i will for sure now that you bring it up!

I didn't deal with it, other than pulling over every 15 minutes or so and sitting for 10 minutes with three friggin' fans on the car. I know when it is acting up, b/c I can hear and feel the power steering pump cavitating.

I am going out in a week, and so I just had the power steering system flushed and the fluid changed. I also bought a second cap, which probably won't do *****, but on the 0.1% chance it is the cap, I have it. Also, someone suggested taking off the front engine panel on the theory that it would help cool the resevoir. I think that is a bad idea, b/c I do not want fluid flying all over the engine compartment and possibly hitting a header. And the amount of additional cooling it might provide is minimal, at best.

Hopefully the flush has dislodged some small particle in the system that was causing the problem, but I doubt it. We'll see.

Ran 38 measured hot after the first session on PS2's and was happy with that.
No prob with power steering fluid during full and half day sessions.

Zip tie a mircofiber towel over the cap, that is what we do here. As for the tire pressure, that would honestly depend on what tires your running as different tires have different sweat spots for tire pressure.

Yea it was only a couple tablespoons if I had to guess, but the belt flinging it made it look a lot worse. Some of the SRT guys that day mentioned it's pretty common and there isn't much to do besides what James suggested - wrapping it up or fixing the rubber seal on the underside of the cap.

Ran this weekend at Roebling Road with 2 other C63's, a couple of E63's and a CLK63BS. All of them were leaking power steering fluid from the reservoir. Flushing the power steering fluid seemed to get rid of the steering shimmy in long turns that I have had in the past - I assume from the pump getting air in it. My car flung a lot of steering fluid at first, I assume b/c it was too full. After that, it just kept the reservoir wet. After seeing all the 63 cars with this same issue, I assume it is normal and nothing to worry about. I did not put any rags or anything else over it, b/c it is soo hot under there I was afraid it would either melt or catch fire.

For what it is worth, an MB tech at the event took several photos and sent them to the AMG Driving Academy to see what the driving academy does about this. I'm not expecting a reply, but you never know.

OT, but did....

enjoy meeting you guys in the parking lot at Fresh Air on Friday. Wish I had gotten a closer look at your car. Call me when you get close to your Q fix next time and I'll break out the 65. Or I'll take you to a hidden BBQ gem in our area that I love.... Still can't believe I wasn't paying attention to the track day this weekend. A friend reported following a black SL65 Black on the freeway thru Macon on Saturday. Coincidence? I think not...

I would recommend that you change your power steering fluid to something that has a higher boiling point.

OK, but what does that have to do with power steering fluid boiling over?

My mistake, i thought they were talking brake fluid not power steering.
