C63 AMG Coupe, BMW E92 M3 manual
Newby here: C63 coupe on order ( via RS4 cabriolet and 335i coupe)
Newby here. Never thought I'd ever buy a Merc. Never thought I'd ever buy an auto. 30 minutes behind the wheel of a C63 AMG performance pack sedan convinced me otherwise. Character ++, accessible torque everywhere, near supercar performance, great steering, and the prospect of accommodating our family of four in reasonable comfort in the coupe variant sold me.
To me it's a vastly more involving car off track than an M3 ( which, like the 335i, sounds and feels dull unless thrashed ). It's also far more enticing than the RS5, which almost all us RS4 owners reckon is a giant leap backwards in the fun stakes, and is incredibly badly packaged given its size ( zero room in back).
Things I will miss:
- Audi's warbling, screaming V8 at 8200rpm. If C63 was as highly tuned it would make 620hp! ( I think C63 torque and growl will compensate though )
- Quattro's unbeatable traction in the wet.
- The super slick manual gearbox.
These issues aside, the Merc really does feel in another league from a performance viewpoint, and I'm looking forward to enjoying a car with a rather different balance of qualities from the Audi's and BMW's I've had in the past.
My coupe arrives in Sydney in December. Diamond white, red/black Designo leather, LSD, matt black 19" wheels, performance pack. I can't wait!!!
