QualComm Drag Racing in San Diego!!!
Hey guys,
I recently found out about this 1/8mi dragstrip in San Diego at the QualComm stadium. They run on Friday nights and obviously the location makes for pretty darn good DA compared to the other tracks in CA.
I know it's only 1/8mi, but that's still a good measure of power and comparable to the split recorded on others' 1/4mi timeslips. Since it's a parking lot I don't expect traction out the hole to be great, but the trap speed should still be a good indicator.
With all the noise lately about my car being down on power, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get some real world results. So, work permitting, I plan to take my car down to the next event, this Friday July 29th.

Any locals interested in joining me?

Sounds like a good event. It is always an advantage running your car in different environments (good or bad) because it gives you great insight on how the car is performing in different conditions and provides you with data that can later be used to compare results with other cars.

I do Qualcom almost every weekend they run. It's a lot of fun. You can get better times at barona. Barona is a real track, and is prepped. Qualcom is uphill on a parking lot surface. Again, still great fun!! I may be out there tomorrow for a few runs
Best time at Qualcom was 7.5 sec. I did 7.3 at Famoso, and that was before I did exhaust, fuel rail and new tune (Old DD Numbers: 471/560 - New 493/590)... Looking for a 7.2 at Qualcom to give me a 6.9 at a real track.. can you say 10 second quater mile

I've run at Qcom and it is fun. Watch out though as the eighth mile comes up quick and there isn't a lot of shut down length. Traction is iffy at best.

- I ran high 8's to low 9's when I was bone stock
- After pulley and headers (+tune) I ran a best of 8.5 sec (450/543)
- 82mm TB and tune 8.3 sec
- At this point I ran Famoso with a 7.3 sec (See slip) Dyno at this time was 461/567 (Shown on last dyno as "Before")
- Exhaust (without tune) 7.5 sec
- Fuel Rail and new tune (TBD)
I have not run since my last tune because timing equipment was broken. My last dyno at OE was 492/590
Given the gains, especially up top, I hope I can get some low 7's, but traction is not good... as mentioned above

With a standing 1/8th you're going to get beat by some of the fast and furious crowd. The big block Benzo just doesn't get deep enough into its power curve in such a short distance.

Only one to beat me since stock has been my buddies GTR. By .2 sec
7.3 to 7.5
There is a Civic and a GSX that can run in the low 7's, but they break every time I race them... twitchy turbo cars!

Race Legal is tonight, and we will probabaly have the best DA in a long while. Right now there is a negavite DA, and by 7:00PM tonight it should be around -250
Usually is is arount +1500, so you can expect some fast times out of everyone. I am testing a new 91 tune (no race fuel tonight), and will be interested in the results. If you have not tried this, it is a lot of fun. Come down
6:00pm - Midnight
$30 to race, bring a helmet, or rent one at track.

No offense towards you directly but I've never understood this statement. Our engines have torque, and the horsepower to keep it there, down low in the revs whereas the "fast n furious" crowd is know to have high RPM horsepower and torque thus making the 1/8 ideal for us and the 1/4 for them (although that doesn't always play out that way )

I ran 9 times tonight and won all races Best run was a 7.356 at 95.13 (1.677 60') Best trap was 96.77mph Track is pretty tore up, I was lucky to get one good launch.
Point being, the torque can overcome Vin Diesel!! One bummer: A Black Z06 hit the wall hard about halfway down the track..

Ahhh man that sucks!!! I'm sure insurance will be fun dealing with on top of that too. A long while back I saw the same thing happen to a nice blown Chevelle. Spinning the tires so hard and rather than backpedaling, he thought he could drive through it but... he didn't

Friday the 21st is the next race. I was told the VHT guy will be back, and the track will have better prep (Even at its best it is bad, but the guy was out last weekend).
Two weeks ago there was a S65 and another E55. I would like to see some of the C63's come out. If you are local, it is a lot of fun.

Let me know if anyone goes to any of these local tracks around San Diego. I'm interested in going and live in San Diego. It would me nice to meet fellow AMG owners.
On a side note you can get race gas in el cajon ca, it's close to barona and Qualcomm. It's like 8.99 /gal.
