Latest drive in SLS GT3 - Lausitzring
Guys,
Another post for those of you who say you want me to contine to post this sort of thing even though not exatly C63 related. Sorry to bore those of you who could car less about tracking etc.
Just returned from a productive day with SLS G3 Training at Lausitzring. The weather was perfect and the always the AMG Academy did a great job. The Academy arranged for 3 us of to do some training on the track for the whole day. In addition to our group of 3 there were some perspective GT3 customers from Poland at the track testing the car under the supervision of Thomas Jager and one special test driver in the form of Mika Hakkinen who was putting some time into the car before racing it in China in near future. Also present was Matthew - the Mercedes Benz reporter who is very cool guy and was a pleasure to be around.
Now to the track. We did the DTM circuit which had a nice mix of very technical sections with some straight for letting the car stretch its legs. Did around 5 sessions before I called it a day with had some old back problems which flared up due to some pretty hard hits in some of the compressions in the track. My lap times were the 1:31-1:32 range with reference lap time by Pro of 1:27 so have some more work to do. Ran Dunlop slicks which are decent tire but not as good as the Michelins I have run in the past.
Attached are some pics and video of one of the sessions here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M4mcPGZ35c The guy who passes me at the beginning of the video is Mika and as you can see he is still very fast. A great time and blast as always

Yes I know
Call it old age! On this track you were always loaded with Gs and when I hit the compression the car was already loaded and the jolt went through the back. Not very comfortable at all. I will say driving the GT3 takes some effort with aerodynamics and Gs you pull...make me 20 years younger and I probably wouldn't have noticed it
Come on over anytime!
