Is there any noticeable everyday driving benefit of adding a straight pipe?

I currently have 300 cel high flow cats, and have an appointment to have ACG test-install the straight pipe on my car to see if I like the sound and if I notice any power gains/losses. I have the Tri-Y headers from MBH and the Akrapovic slip ons, but can't find a sound clip on the internet that has the same setup to me. I just want to get a sense beforehand if it's worth paying the labor for the install (and possible removal)...because if I am basically replacing my current sound with one that will consistently get me attention from police and sound like a shotgun blast on a cold start in the morning, I am going to pass....

A straight pipe will get you a lot of attention. I put a supersprint exhaust with mufflers on my ML 63 and that was already too much. Car alarms went off, people stared at me, someone gave me the finger etc.
I would by no means recommend straight pipes.

Out of curiosity, do you know what the cel count is for the stock, primary and secondary cats?

I'm very interested to know if the secondary cats have a higher cel count than 300.

From what I have heard about various OE cel counts, perhaps in the range of 400-600.

Steel Grey Metallic C63!!
Pert - You should message AZNKUJA328. He has FMU headers and the akrapovic slip-ons. He should have a sound clip of his car.

I would think 400-600 for secondary cats on our cars would be on the high side. I think they are lower than that.

Thanks! Considering FMU's recent apparent track record, not sure how comparative his experience is to mine.

Straight pipes are VERY loud!
I had my resonators and 2ndary cats replaced with straight pipes and it was brutal!

Regardless, removing your 300 cell cats will gain some power.

akrapovic is quite enough as i found it is quieter than stock. i wouldn't worry too much about cops. if you find that your current exhaust is too quiet, it's normal and straights will help your system to sound more alive.

Matt,,
I'ver heard your car. It's plenty lound and still sounds good. The pressure wave when it was reved up almost knocked me. If you're looking for more power LTHD and hi flow 100 cell cats are the way to go. No cats at all are just a hassle one every two years to get replaced and smogged and I don't think the power gain is at good ast LTHD. I think you're going to loss a litte low power as the TQ response is shifted to higer RMS. I know James is doing lot of pioneering with these cars and could advise you well.
