Yup! Is that time again (winter tires)
my factory Continentals are finally wearing thin, and am in the market for some good winter tires
I'm in the great white north where we get quite the dumping of snow each year so what is a good snow tire that would prevent me getting stuck at the end of my driveway after a 15 cm snow day ?

This is my first winter with the C but I dont even have to drive it to know this car will suck in the snow. Big time.
RWD + 443 lb ft + 255/18 tires = 0 traction.
Theres a reason why a Honda Civic on pizza cutters is always flying around your neighbourhood during a snowfall. Better hit Craigslist I'm just going to drive my wifes Odyssey - FWD, weight over the wheels and winter tires. I'll go where ever I want.

225/40-18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 tires all around and you will be fine in all but the largest storms (where clearance is an issue). I have driven my M3 through many Canadian winters without any issue. If you want more aggressive winter tires than the LM-60 (which are performance winters but more snow oriented than many others) look into Nokian tires. You will sacrifice a lot of dry weather traction but will pick up ice and snow traction. For me, the LM-60 is a perfect blend.

Jeffield - thats too funny. Look at the vehicle on either side of you. I know that cant be Ditchmond as it just doesn't snow like that below sea level.

I bought Hankook W310 Winter i*cept evo tires 235/40-18 all round. Relatively cheap but since I have noticed the tires wear like a b-tch I don't really care. I don't have to drive the car much in the winter and have a pontiac vibe if the car really struggles but Im curious to find out. They are sitting in the garage waiting for me put them on, nonetheless Im really stubborn and probably won't until after the first snowfall.

Cos thats one of the funnest days of the year at the tire shop. Everybody in a great mood, hustling about, big smiles on their faces, offering fast and friendly service. You're practically in and out of there before the coffee reaches the bottom of your cup!!!

i'm running Blizzaks WS-60 235/40/18 all around, they're already on the car. Nothing to report here other than that if you step on the gas pedal abit too fast, the tires will spin for obvious reasons. (i did a burnout by accident backing out onto the road lol).

Do you guys have a set of winter wheels too?
I am trying to price a tire+wheel combo package, here's what I got so far...
Dealer 1: $3500
Dealer 2: $2000 (about what I had expected)
Tire Rack: $1400 or so
My issue with the tire rack is finding the right installer. Just for convenience sake I want one who will do storage (Correctly) for the summer wheels + tires, but it isn't clear that any of their installers will do that.

I just moved off my summers today and got Conti DWS all seasons for the wet part of the year here in the PAC NW. We don't actually get much snow.
They did say this would be the snowiest year in the past 20 yrs, but this is the same nebulous "they" who said this past rainy-*** excuse for a summer would be a tropical heat wave.

My winter here is pretty dry so far, and warm... my tires are melting in this weather! LOL
For those that winter drive their C63's, get the remote car starter, best purchase behind winter tires. Uses the factory key fob (panic button), I use it even in the summer to cool the car. It's the Mid City Engineering starter, which is branded in Canada as a Compustar unit.
US: http://midcityengineering.com/smartkey-starter
CAN: http://www.compustar.com/mercedesstarter/
Those sites just talk about the device, they don't sell it, have to find an authorized dealer. It's kinda expensive (I think it was $1200 installed or something silly), but it's worth every penny!
