hi guys

pls advise the best way to keep the matt look on the leather.
i have seen a few 63's all about 1 to 2 years old and the leather seems to take the most beating. they look like they 5 years old already - all shiny and scratched.

Im looking for some input on this as well. I have Ash leather in my C63 and I want to know what to sue to keep it clean and protected as this is a daily driver.

The key is consistent maintenance; any neglected leather can quickly harden and wear. IMO Leatherique is too expensive for regular cleaning and conditioning; it's better suited for restoring dry or cracking leather. Lexol is the better choice for day-to-day use. I use it at least once two weeks to keep the seats in top shape.

i've been using Zaino Z10 leather in a bottle with good results. I apply it by hand and leaves a pretty good leather scent.

much cheaper alternative to leatherique. While leatherique produces good results, i've read that for relatively new leather, it's overkill.

do you think this will help keeping the Ash color clean as well? Is it a conditioner or a cleaner/conditioner.

What should I use to clean it?

This should also work on my 69 Jaguar seats?

I like Leather Masters products and also the Zaino leather products. I have used both and they are easy to use and don't leave a shiny or oily appearance.

the Z10 is just a conditioner. I don't eat (or have sex) in the car, so it's pretty clean anyways. I wipe them clean with a damp cloth, let it dry abit, then massage the Z10 into the leather, making sure i get all the seams.

If you can leave it out in the sun to help it dry up, or turn on the heated seats if possible.

But if you have a 69 jag, i'm guessing the leather is more worn, so using leatherique cleaner and conditioner will likely give you better results. And since you have it, you can apply the conditioner to your C as well.

Usually conditioners are separate from conditioners (for the good ones anyways). IIRC there are conditioners specifically meant for light color leather.

You should first clean your seats with a detailing brush; it'll dislodge the dirt trapped in the folds of the seat. Vacuum then wipe with damp rag or leather cleaner. For older, neglected leather you should use leather restorer. I'd also recommend heating up the leather a bit before applying the leather restorer with either blowdryer or the sun.

You should not use any all in one products, as you don't know the ratio of cleaning solution to conditioner in the product. Here are my steps to cleaning my leather.

1) vacuum the car.
2) apply leather cleaner and follow as directed.
3) apply leather conditioner.

Ihadthe dealer throw in the MB leather cleaner when I picked up my car with the Sahara Beige interior...which looks more like cream yellow so everything shows. I have been pleased with how it is wearing and every few weeks I give the driver's seat and armrest a wipe and it looks good as new. With the leather cleaners I always purchase the company specified stuff instead of generic, maybe just piece of mind because it has been tested and formulated for MB leather.

I use Zymol leather cleaner and conditioner, seems to work pretty well.

+1 Aside from its inherent conditioning properties Lexol has two other great qualities; a) it does not change the sheen of the leather whatsoever once dry, and b) the scent is subtly leather-like but dissipates quickly - I applied a light coat in my M Coupe a few days ago and cannot smell it on the seats at all today. Much, much better quality leather in the BMW IMHO.

I am also having an issue with trying to clean the seats rather than conditioning them.
The wife puts that "sheen powder" on her legs and guess where it ends: all over the seats.
My seats are ash so the yellowish powder really shows up.
I have been reluctant using any kind of strong cleaning agent so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Not allowing the wife in the car is not an option

"sheen powder"? As in Charlie Sheen? And I thought that stuff is white?

In any case, detailing brush, vacuum then wipe with damp cloth. If that doesn't do it, you can use water down detergent to clean the spot.

Think of the leather as your skin. The biggest issue is keeping it clean and free from grease and muck. If you can keep it clean you will need very little product. Too much product will make it 'shiney'.

I use a lot of water with just a little bit of dish soap when I clean the interior. I change my rags often when cleaning and then rinse afterwards. Leave it to dry in a cool place in the shade. I am leery of using a store bought conditioner because who knows what is in the MB dyes. Back in my BMW days everyone was using spinnybeck. Maybe MB sells and AMG leather conditioner?

I do the same thing on the alcantara steering wheel although I use a toothbrush to stand the fibers up which helps clean them as well.

I also got the dealer to "throw in" MB Leather Care foam at my last service. I use the term "throw in" loosely because they had already stung me for one of their overpriced oil and filter changes.
In any event this stuff seems to work fine.

Has anyone ever used Z1 Einszett Leather Care ? My buddy just recommended it but wanted to run it past you guys. He is always on top of his game with it comes to this stuff.
