iPod Classic + Comand, steering wheel controls only?

iPod Classic + Comand, steering wheel controls only?
I tried searching for this but there are way too many irrelevant threads that come up so sorry if this is a repost.
Am I only able to navigate my iPod music menu through the steering wheel or is it supposed to come up in Comand? All I see are the "Volume" and "Sound" options. Nothing in Comand will allow me to navigate or browse my iPod when it's connected.
If it's supposed to show up on the Comand screen, what is the issue then? SW fix? iPod OS issue?
