HELP! I'm bugging out about this sound and oil temp? Please.
Hello friends,
So I'm on my way home from work tonight in my 12' C63. It was about 58 degrees F outside, nothing unusual.. My commute home is 7 miles from NYC to NJ. I had it on "C" mode as I have since I got my car on 1/30/12. The car currently has 775 miles on it, and for the 1st time, I said "screw it" let me push this BEAST tonight. Hence, I did. Nothing too crazy, but I had the RPMs close to the red line a few times, and for the 1st time saw my oil temp (AMG digital in dash) go above 225. So when I exited the highway and slowed down, the temp read 231 F.
THAT's when I heard this "whistling" type noise that obviously was a some type of fan or blower ?
So I pull into my home garage and put it park with the engine still running and the whistling sound or wtvr it was was still happening, it was pretty loud. Loud enough that my wife came out to greet me and said, "what the heck is that sound?"
I opened the hood and saw and heard that it was coming from somewhere behind the passenger side headlamp, but I didn't SEE any fans or anything.
I grabbed my phone and video'd it. Within a few seconds, the whistling fan stopped, and when I looked at the oil temp, it fell below 230 F.
So, what I'm asking is, "Is this a regular common safety feature for cooling purposes?" Does this happen to you as well? This is the 1st time I "opened her up" and it WAS fun, however I'm hoping I didnt damage something and F my car up
I'm hoping to hear that it's normal and nothing is wrong.... Please help me out with some information.
Please note, I wasn't driving REALLLLY craZy, but I DID hit high RPMs for a few short bursts and exceeded 85 mph (maybe 105).
Here is the short video I took. The whistling stops at 0:03. But it was making that sounf for a good minute or 2 before I started filming.
it stopped once the oil temp went below 230F. ( i think?)

thanks for any input friends.. much appreciated.

Believe it or not, a good friend of mine just told me a story about his friend's C63 AMG (2008 Model) and he GUNNED it down the highway and drove it hard for a good 5 miles... Result? A blown engine.... and his was broken in.
The guy who made his engine (whoever, from Germany) had to fly into NYC to fix it... which he did
That story was just playing in my head, and hearing a new sound like that bugged me out.
yeah yeah yeah.. break my *****. thanks, it makes me feel better
Again, thanks. Even those LOLing at my rookie a$$

I really wasn't kidding... that said, i'm not a tight a$$ nerd who shouldn't be in this type of car. However, I must admit, now that I'm 35 and not 25, married w/a kid too, I find myself (as in this case) being a LOT more paranoid or "mature" so to speak about everything...but not a pessimist at all
I'm not cocky, but I am confident.
And I'm glad and thankful for your response... heck, I would've prob sai dthe same thing given someone asked something as silly as what I did, given I knew wtH was his/her issue and it was nothing...
So thanks, and pardon me for being such a damn rookie to AMGs..
or just modern beasts such as the C63... My e92 M3 is long forgotten
Again, thanks bro~ hahahaha i feeel much better

2012 C63 AMG
Just your oil cooler fan. Mine kicks in around 110C = 230F. My oil temp usually hovers around 103 to 115 while driving in the city. I'd only be concerned if after you pass 230F, the temp keeps rising and you don't hear the fan kick in lol...

Don't worry it won't explode... And if it does, you got warranty.
Break in is over, time to drop the hammer!!!
I never broke mine in. Went sideways leaving the dealership... Running strong as ever and compression is great at 50,000km.
