New Member Introduction, Question

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
After a bit of debate and a sad goodbye to my wonderful C320 4matic(sad part), I bought a new, non p31, otherwise loaded Iridium Silver 2011 C63 AMG(debate part, but like the external looks & auto trans more than the new interior and questionable MCT) 3 month ago. I would have said Hi earlier but I was having waaay too much fun driving to spend time here on the keyboard.

She's my DD, and in the last 3 months I've logged ~6k miles, 1 torturously long break-in period, 4-5 good kills, and now a new set of rear tires.

I seem to echo the same that we all think.
-Awesome exhaust - Already sent many of children and small animals running on even warm starts (no such thing as cold start in Houston, tx)
-Great power/torque - Love the pull in virtually any gear
-Good Seats - Although the black bear huggers in Houston do give the A/C a bit of a workout keeping me cool

And of course the critiques:
-Gas tank WAY too small (filling up ever other day almost)
-Transmission doesn't always agree with your "requests", gets irksome
-Ride quality over crappy roller coaster roads can be....overly sporty (but not bad, and certainly a known quantity)

Anyway, now that I'm through a set of rears, I'm thinking either an OE tune, or just run North ~3 miles to Eurocharged for a nice, hopefully untraceable tune to awaken the real beast within. From what I've read, OE seems a bit stronger(debatable), but it is a plus to have a shop I can drive up to and hit someone upside the head if something goes wrong w/ the car (I know, that really shouldn't happen with either of them). Haven't decided yet which.

Also, i love the Vorsteiner diffuser, not sold on a front lip yet tho (Vorsteiner looks pretty sweet too though)

Other than that, the only "problem" I'm having so far is I've gone through 6 batteries in the 2 remotes (about 1 batter per key per month) with the keyless, and I wanted to ask if this is normal or what kind of time frame y'all get with your keyless batteries? Service advisor says this isn't normal, but I'm not a fan of bringing the car to the stealership unless necessary. You know how that is...

Otherwise, It's good e-meeting y'all and look forward to being part of the group.

I'm not much into the pictures, and we've all seen silver/black C63's before, but I did take this before scaring the crap out of the unassuming group in the background.

Rear Tires, 6k about right. Key battery, should last a year. Ride, call your local DOT! Gas tank, filling it is proportional to your rear tire wear. Seats, you will enjoy when you take it to the track. I have the old tranny. Carbon fiber, check out Carbon Mode, quality is not bad for price, Renntech 1st class, get your wallet out.

Welcome

Thanks for the welcome.
Yea, that mode carbon lip was one I looked at. It seems to me like it makes the car run around town sticking its tongue out at everyone...Not a bad image to go along with the pops, farts and burbles that come from the rear end, but it didn't speak to me like the V. diffuser yet. We'll see, not in any rush.

Been just enjoying the car and prioritizing the wish list.

I'd love to know if anyone has a good laser jammer kit install.
What i was looking at was something like Chrome-tec's front skirt/DRL mod, but instead of the DRLs, that looks to me like a great place to put some laser jammers.
Has anyone got any good advice on placement/systems for this?
I know, I know, it's stealth the car, not the system, but to blend in some jammers functionally would sure make the conversations with the cops a lot less awkward.

Thnx.

I live in S. fl. So I could see the quality of finish for both Renntech and Mode Carbon before ordering. I have Renntech front Lip and spoiler in matte finish.
Renntech has no CF grill, and Renntech Diffuser does not work with Akrapovic exhaust, so I bought Mode carbon gloss finish and had them resprayed matte.

Thanks khmergod. I've moved down from Chicago, and it's nice to not worry about the snow factor. But joining the AMG owners club is a nice group to be in isn't it?

P.S. How in the world do you survive on I-10 with a red C63? There seems to be a cop every 1/4 mile every beginning/end of the month.

Been lucky. I try not to go beyond 85. There are times though...

And yes. Mbworld is awesome. So much knowledge in one place. My first true forum.

I probably wouldn't start bashing your potential tuner. Especially because they are going to be working on your car. Jerry, and the guys at Eurocharged are fantastic, both in quality and customer service. They are real people who are damn straight-forward. And, could potentially help you with more than just a tune.

And just a thought.

Oh, and welcome. You'll enjoy the car and the knowledge gleamed from here.

welcome to the boards

for the keyless go, i think you should ask your Service advisor. I am having the same problem with one key for my wife's GLK. the C63 ones seem to be fine. Will be asking when I take the glk in for service later in the month

Hi Jordanaf & Fung63,
Thanks for the welcomes.

I guess I do keep forgetting that sarcasm and dry wit is hard to translate across the Internet. For the record, anyone else who read that without the lightheartedness and joviality that was intended, please re-read, smile, and move on. (the mental picture alone of anyone actually doing that should be worth the laugh itself)

I would not be considering any shop (be it a tuner, or mechanic) that doesn't value the high level of quality and professionalism that these level of cars deserve, but as the adage goes, hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Surely we all know the value of a face-to-face meet and greet & handshake when working on a significant investment?

Anyway, I've scheduled an appointment for the car to get looked at for the keyless issue. We'll see how it goes. They were already taking loaner cars; can't wait to feel the raw fury and frenzy that is the c250... (btw, that was sarcasm again, the c250 is a great car, I can't help it..smile, move on.)

Thought I'd update the thread in case anyone needs the info in the future.
After chatting w/ some MB techs about this, apparently there was a batch of keys around the '09-'10 manufacturing date that for some reason or another goes through batteries about that once a month range.
If you look at your key, there's a pair of 4 small silk-screened numbers near the panic button, on one of the smaller edges. The 2nd set of 4 indicate the manufacturing date.
From what I'm told, it's Year Week Day in YWWD format for anyone looking for learn a little more.
I just happened to get 2 keys in that lucky time frame and all they recommend is a set of new keys, free of charge, but needs a few days to complete as no dealer programs keys anymore.

Karl, no, this was the factory installed optional keyless, couldn't imagine the extra work involved in aftermarket changes required...

HTH.

Welcome to Houston,

I myself work on the 10 freeway (Energy Corridor) and live in Katy. I see there are a bunch of us in this area. I guess we can organize a meet sometime in future.

As regards a red C63 on I-10. I haven't had much issue with a li'l louder Red GTO - since the god dammed I-10 is a parking lot most of the time. haha.

thanks for the info about the keys issue. wife's glk is a MY2010 so there is definitely a good chance this is a problem key.

USCGTO, bmwcousins, VividRacing: Thanks for the welcomes. It's nice emeeting y'all.

USCGTO: True about i10, until about 7-8pm when i seem to get off work. Then there's just enough space between cars to let the c63 have some fun. if only the general populace around here had any lane etiquette it wouldn't be bad.. Ditto for Chicago except less space, more construction I suppose. Ah well, something to chat about at least.

BMWcousins: Glad to hear about the Eurocharged tune. They're definitely on my radar.

It's surprising to me there's a few of us out this way. I've seen like 12 m3's, 3-4 IS-F's, but only 1 C63 p31, and that was downtown proper. Had a fun run down westpark with an e46 m3 the other week, it good to see some people use these things for more than status symbols.

I'd be up for a meet & greet sometime. I am quite the workaholic though, but with some advanced notice that sounds like a good excuse to get the car out of the driveway.

Fung, Hope this is the same for you too then. I was just happy to hear they could keep their loaner. They had a porter over there that was eyeballin' the car something fierce. (I just put on new tires, had 1/4 tank of gas, and all the car's mechanicals were in the temperature sweet spot) so i held on to the keys like they were my kids...Ah paranoia. It's just a car right?

I am not lying, and I swear to god yesterday looked like white M3 sedan day. I saw 3 at different parts of the westpark toll way - all west bound and then I saw one more on way back.

All white - All Sedans - All E92 M3s. IS-F are also pretty redundant. I haven't seen any C63 P31 in Katy, TX. For that matter I have only seen one C63 in Katy. And it was toying around with a Gallardo. Most likely same family.

Join the AMG private lounge (use your VIN for access) and you'll find out there's a 2013 SLK55 and another C63 which resides in Katy and works in Energy Corridor.

Also, I had a fun run with a TT-RS + M3 + S4 coupe, but I was in my GTO. At the right time and right place West-park tollway can be an amazing place.

Nothing like $4 for doing 25 miles in 15 minutes. lol.

Add another White C63 to the Energy Corridor crowd (temp living) but soon to be moving into the Heights.

I also havent been bothered much be being selective with my "breakouts" and keeping in at 85 on my trips to San Antonio. Like USC, I got a lot more attention in my H/C/I GTO with the SLP loudmouth exhaust. Cops in New Mexico could hear me coming.

Haven't modified any of the car yet actually.
I must confess, as a stock car, this is one of the most "spot on" stylings I've ever had.
I really like the looks of the 18" star wheels, and the stock exhaust is just about exactly spot on as well.

There's a 10ish year old kid in my area that was ALWAYS out in the street playing ball or running around (not cul de sac, but street) and the fool never has looked both ways when running across. (at least every time I saw him anyway). Well once, i was coming back he & his mob were out playing football and the thing went under the van parked nearby, so as I creeped up, not sure which kid was going to dart out from where, I waited till i saw little feet about to run into the streen again. At this point, I throw it in neutral, give her good helping of the loud pedal and BOOM! All of them stop, notice 3 cars waiting to pass, back up and pay attention to the things they should be.

Now, every time I see him, he's always on the sidewalk, and when he sees me coming he drops his ball, covers his ears and braces himself for the fury that is the AMG....
So, i haven't seen a need to change up her growl any...It's a better teacher than some parents i guess..

Hi
First things first, welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your car, that's never fun.
Second though, you might have noticed up at the top the breadcrumbs of the site: MBWorld.org Forums > Mercedes-Benz AMG Vehicles > C63 AMG (W204)
That defines where the "specialists" can go to talk with other like-minded individuals.
The 2002 era C class is called the W203, and even if this was a "regular" w204 era C350, the C63 has a fair bit of specialized parts that wouldn't necessarily transfer over to help you with the c320. This would be a better section for you: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203-3/

So while I would never say, you're in the wrong subforum, and it might help if you read a little better, I wouldn't argue with someone who would.

Now as you're someone asking for help, and personally I like it when people help me instead of snarky comments, here's the best advice I can give....
I had a 2003 C320 4matic back in the day and i brought it to stealership once to have them fix a few things and somehow they managed to get the power cable for the seat loose and caught in the track of the seat itself. I don't exactly remember the full damage (I don't believe arcs & sparks) but it was enough to chomp the cable and stop any function to the seat. I believe these cables run near the inside track of the seat, so try to get in from the back seat foot area and look for anything out of place here. Otherwise, try the appropriate subforum as you'll find much better experts of the 203 there.

Good luck!
B
