I think it will sound good. Resonator is only there to quiet down the exhaust tone.

If you replace it with a straight h-pipe. It should mimic the stock setup but give it more sound.

I would suggest doing what me and Julio did, use 1.5" tubing for H pipe for more AMG bark

But I remember you mentioned you like the stock sound. You might not like the resonator removal because the sound will be much deeper than stock. You might think it sounds "cheap" (lol)

Found 2 video comparisons for ya:

STOCK-

RESONATOR DELETE-

Resonator just sounds a bit louder/deeper than stock

Thank you sir for this awesome detailed post! I'm gonna keep it stock!

Just got around to finally doing this mod. Julio, you have really under-exaggerated how AMAZING the sound is.

-After playing around with my exhaust 6 times, this is definitely the BEST setup sound wise. It's like an AMG on roids that just had a shelby for lunch. pure MUSSSSSCLE.

-First start, damn, was blown back, was definitely not expecting that roar.

-Idle, sounds amazing. Like when you turn your car on cold start and you hear the gurgles for the first 5-10 seconds, but it never goes away. *might not be for everyone*

-Cruising, quieter than x pipe in the cabin, less drone. A little bit louder than stock maybe.

-WOT, like a starving banshee that just found food. It's INCREDIBLE.

-No video will ever do this mod justice, if anyone in the NOVA area wants to hear it in person, ill be glad to meet up with ya!

Oh, and my exhaust guy did it 2-3 inches further back then the picture posted.

Sounds like its H pipe is the new X lol. Julio I went and had a pre made pipe done. I kept the resonator on tho. Check the thread I made now everyone can pick and choose H X with or without resonator. We gotta meet soon brotha!

C63 Coupe
Hey guys this is a great thread with a lot of helpful info

I have a 2012 c63 coupe an wanted to change up my exhaust set up to give a louder bark. I've heard the stock resonator is actually a small H pipe as well correct? What if I just straight piped my secondary cats and left stock res/Hpipe intact ? Would it still have AMG bark and similar to Julio's setup since its basically the same with just a resonated h pipe instead of an unresonated H pipe?*

I want the power gains of a second cat delete , the bark of a real AMG but not all the rasp that comes with a resonator delete*

Look at the thread below I posted on. There is another vid with just the mid pipe I had made. Another option for you to look at. I think it's what you may be looking for since I was in the hunt for the same thing.

so if i'm calling around...i ask exhaust shops if they can, "do an H Pipe with 1-1/2 tubing, not in the middle of the resonator but at the beginning?"

do i get a resonator/secondary delete or anything?

i clearly have no idea what i'm talking about so any help would be much appreciated.

Secondary cat delete with X pipes

Not loud enough

Engine transplant

I'd imagine resonator delete with straight pipes and secondary cat delete with straight pipes but it's never going to sound the same.

I want to hear more videos of exhaust setups. I'd like to hear some more footage of x pipe/reso delete setup like from in the car and driving around under load. almost everything on youtube is cold startup videos.

are these MODS still US street legal? I Know you have to have CATs or at least fake the funk with some trickery. but what about just a resonator delete and H pipe, is that gonna void the warranty or inspection?

I got my exhaust done up yesterday in Raleigh, NC. The car sounds pretty badass at WOT. nothing really changed inside at idle, but when you rev it, it rips. I left the 2nd Cats in for now until I find out how to beat the system for inspections. Anyone in the US taken their Cats out and changed the computer so it doesn't throw the check engine light on?

Removing the 2nd Cats will not cause any CEL, only removing the Primary Cats will.

but the exhaust warranty is pretty much gone with any modifications done, even resonator delete I believe.

Not sure how strict US is, but do they pull you in for inspections regularly? Here in Canada never had any inspection requests for me

Annual inspections here in New Brunswick, but no OBDII or sniffer just visual. All flow cats work a charm here as they pass the visual in most cases.

Hey guys,

just found this old thread.

Recently had some drone issues with my IPE Valvetronic exhaust.

Demounted it and sent it back now - it was really unacceptable.

Thinking about installing an H-Pipe now.

How are your feedbacks concerning any drone when driving without the resonator??
