H-pipe
Need some help guys, tomorrow my friend who owns a muffler shop will make me an h-pipe for my 11 C63 PP,right now I have straight pipes for the sec/cats and resonator but it is just too loud and to me the h-pipe is better for sound and performance, the question is,h-pipe to replace the sec/cats or to replace the resonator,i have read here from other members that for example when you install an x-pipe is to replace the sec/cats not the resonator,I had an x-pipe in my 09 replacing the sec/cats and took much of the sound away which to me ours cars should have that AMG sound just a little bit louder,so for sound and performance h-pipe to replace the sec/cats or resonator? Please if somebody can help me with this, thank you.

The resonator has a small H-Pipe in it so maybe put your H-Pipe there as well. If it is still too loud then put your resonator back. People talk a little about H-Pipes but I don't think anyone has tried one yet as they prefer straight pipe or X-Pipe for secondary cats and straight pipe for resonators.

Thank you Mort, that's what I was thinking since the AMG engineers did the little h-pipe with the resonators, now don't you think is better if I do it in place of the sec/cats,like we do with the x-pipe?

I'm getting my custom made H pipe on Tuesday I plan to put it where the 2ndCat spot is. I'm not sure if the position matters but I will put it on the 2ndCat area because it's where the 2 banks start to meet, so it might be a better flow connection? I dunno just my random logic lol!
My question would be:
Does the size of the pipe that connects both banks on the "H pipe" affect the sound.
For example if the connecting pipe of the "H pipe" was skinnier and less flow flows to each side; would the car bark more?

I wish somebody that did it already will give us the scoop,I think that it should go at the front,to replace the cats, but how come from factory they put it at the back were the resonator goes, maybe they know something we don't?

It is a recommendation to put an X-Pipe as far forward in the exhaust as possible. I am not sure that applies to an H-Pipe but I have seen systems with the H-Pipe as soon as the two side of the exhaust meet. In that case put the H-Pipe in place of the secondary cats. The more flow there is through the H-Pipe the less bark the exhaust will have as the exhaust pulses are merged rather than balanced. Placed a little father back and smaller in diameter the more bark the exhaust will have.

Just made the custom H pipe and installed on 2ndCat area. Car has no AMG bark; I'm guessing the H pipe needs to be on the resonator area which is farther down, in order to have the bark/rasp
Loudness the same if not a bit louder than the X pipe. Sounds similar to the X pipe too, except deeper.
It sounds very clean and deep, but I personally don't like it because no AMG bark, so I recommend "Julio Perez" to try putting your H pipe where the resonator sits. Oh and i used a 2" connecting pipe for the H. You can try even smaller

Thank you c63addix,tomorrow I'm doing my,I will installed on the resonator area and I will let you know how it goes, now, how does the car feels as far as acceleration, also you think that the h-pipe is better than the x-pipe or is better to just go straight pipe on both?

The Straight/Straight was louder for sure, but it got way too rasp. Sounded like the car is breaking down and suffering during acceleration because it wasn't smooth. The best thing about it is probably the cold starts lol, its very loud!

ALSO, my exhaust guy commented my car idles very quiet. He recommends me to get Flow Masters mufflers with the AMG tips for even louder sound and loud idles. Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, yeah I left my car there to pick up something.
Thanks! My exhaust is H pipe to replace resonator.
I am thinking X pipe to replace secondaries now.
I should setup a Vancouver C63 thing soon! Given that there is interest.

I just finished doing the resonator with a small h-pipe with 1-1/2 tubing connecting both sides, the car sounds awesome,it's a cleaner sound with the AMG bark,it's almost as loud as before with straight pipes,it feels like its got more torque down low, like with the x-pipe,the only difference is that it sounds great,I really think that that is the way you should go with the exhaust in our cars, the only thing left will be to take it to a dyno and see the numbers,I'm very happy with the results and hope that this will answer some of the questions we had with the h-pipe.

Here's what I did - first I replaced the resonator with straight pipes but I hated the sound. Then I replaced the secondary cats with an X pipe and it now sounds great. Much smoother now and a power gain that I can feel (or perhaps imagine!).

Just have your muffler shop weld a small 1-1/2 tube between the straight pipes on the place were the resonator used to be and believe me you are going to be very happy, you will have the AMG bark and your car will also feel faster.

thanks bud, I wanted to do that today but my exhaust guy strongly suggest it will be the same. Now i can change it to your set up with ease
I might even try 1.25" tubing to see what that'll do :O

Would you mind posting a picture of how it looks julio? I have xpipe in place of secondaries and straight pipes in place of resonators, not too crazy about the sound, but it does pull quicker. Might try what you did..
