2009 C63 42k report
I now have 42k on my 2009 C63. For the most part, it is a fantastic car.
Great Points:
Tons of torque! And its really fun putting all that to the ground. Its a touch nervous on initial turn-in, but once it takes a set in the corner it has tons of grip. A new C350 just screams its tires at corner speeds I usually take with confidence in the C63.
Best seats EVER ( I'm 5'11", 195 lb ). Most supportive, very adjustable, no butt fatigue on long (8+ hr drives). Great seat heat, too. Great steering wheel... just thick enough, very ergonomic grips.
BIG brakes.... they look like they could stop a train. No fade, firm pedal always.
Great gauges... Its terrific the center of the speedo has all the trip and computer info. And I like MB's intuitive cruise control stalk. Very good nav system.
Gas mileage. For the 42k miles, I've averaged 20.2 mpg. That includes lots of highway driving, usually at posted limit +8 or 10.
Trunk space. More than adequate, and I've made good use of the folding rear seats... once delivered an MG hood and fenders in it.
Sour notes:
Tire life. After you burn off the first set, switch to same size tires with a 400 treadwear rating or so. You'll more than double the tire life. I now get 18k from a set of fronts, 8k rears. Some friends got only 3k from their rears!
Its Very sensitive to alignment. Mess it up or get out of spec and the tire edges scallop and they will SCREAM until you replace them. Same as my GL450.
No new tech for 2013. I'm disappointed MB didn't go to a more modern engine with their "refresh". I dont need another 6.3, they should offer something a bit more efficient. 5.5 turbo maybe?
Dealer service cost... $300 for an oil change and "detailed" inspection. Cost of out of warranty parts is ridiculous.
VERDICT:
Would I recommend the C63? Absolutely.
Will I buy another to replace it? Hmmm. Probably need a bit more rear seat room for fast growing teens.

my wife bananas! :D
nice post
I agree with most of your points. You however is one of the very few that say the C63 has great gas mileage lol.... I personally dont care too much about gas prices as we have to pay to play but gas mileage usually isnt the C63's forte haha
as for more room in the back, it might be time for the e63

I would add the quality of interior finish to sour note. It's got a lot of odd cockpit rattles and squeaks.
Also you can fit two adult bodies in the back if you drop the back seats and open up the trunk. Good enough for my needs

how the heck do you avg 20.2 even with highway driving. that means you are not stomping on it enough. :o i have 36k on mines and i love it. Just like cptdaz said, the interior can be of better quality.

I think they took care of the interior with the 2012 update. I personally love the interior on mine and as of yet havent had any issues with rattles etc.

I do as well 21.1 mpg avg mainly highway milage no more than 5-10 above the speed limit. And i think exactly the same about the car: great seats, steering wheel, brakes, grip in corners etc... and of course the engine.
I'm not too sure what a 5.5 supercharged can bring more than a 6.3 except a better mpg?

Agree with most points, only I seem to be averaging close to 13 mpg (unfortunately not ENOUGH highway driving for me)
