I did my winter wheels last year! They held up very well but it was a ***** to take off!! -I prefer just painting stuff now (*Note I own my car -not sure of particular lease rules) but that does look better than stock.

Dont do the whole car!!! After seeing what this **** did to my rims after taking it off its not worth it. Long story short I had to melt it with WD-40 and scrub it off with steel wool. I couldnt imagine getting it off a car. Any of the chemicals used to get it off would surely damage the paint.

humm interesting ... how many coats did you put? The reason I ask is that i've had a few friends do their beaters to make them look a little cleaner and it's peeled off pretty easily... the picture of the white car is famous ... guy decided to try to pressure wash it off with a gas powered pressure washer that does something like 5000PSI .... which would peal the paint of any car .. regardless of the plasti dip.

Maybe they should have pretreated the surface before spraying so the paint doesn't directing grip on the paint.

Can you get a better pic close up in daylight? I love my black grill but its painted by the previous owner and chips like crazy.

I might try this. Did you take if off or do on the car?

I prefer to paint. In MY experience, it is a better job and holds up better. All depends on who the wrapper(ha,ha)/painter is. My grille is painted, 3 coats, not a chip or scratch in over 2 years.

My 2 cents.

The car in this pic was power washed, as a result the paint came directly off of the car. It has nothing to do with removing or applying plasti dip.

On the topic of the grille, it would look better if you sprayed it more evenly.

Can you recommend a touch up paint? I like the look of paint, but the Flat Black touch up paint I got at Autozone looks more like dark gray.

How much would it cost to have it properly repainted?

I had mine professionally painted:

So, sorry, can't help. Sanded, painted, baked, then cured. $60 for the grille and top piece.

Best option for the grill is to wrap it. No chipping or peeling. Plastidip is good for emblems that are a PIA to take off and paint or wrap.

I always like to use plasti dip on small pieces. It provides the chance to return to stock or original. On black I have always seen the big pieces get this sort of brown-ish fade to it. Only on wheels or anything larger always in the sun light. I did finally see a dipped car in person. It looked pretty bad.. They say it can be the sprayer. I have never had a problem peeling it off before.

You did your car?!?
WTF -- and I thought I was crazy...

Did you at least use protection -- I hear that 93 octane can really take quite a few layers off your skin and it will penetrate latex, never mind sheepskin.

Really?

Anywayyyyyy,
I think plastidip is fine to apply on grills. I would just never apply it on wheels or body parts.
