Cross Country Trip 2012
What's up everyone?! I got back from a cross country trip a few weeks ago and just wanted to share some pics and info for those who are interested.
I left San Diego, CA on October 8th and got to New Bern, NC on October 11th. There, me and my four brothers and sister and her family all surprised my mother. My step father was in on it and left the back door unlocked and took her out to lunch. They came back and we were all in the living room...priceless reaction.
I stayed there for a couple days and headed up North to Saratoga Springs, NY where I grew up. Stayed there a few days catching up with old friends and then headed out to Keuka College to catch a soccer game (alma mater).
The next day I left for San Diego and got back mid afternoon on October 24th.
It was a fantastic trip and I couldn't think of any car i'd rather use on those 75mph speed limit roads!!!
I also wanted to share some stats with you:
I drove through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Missouri.
Oklahoma has by far the hottest toll booth attendants.
I will be ok if I never see another 18 wheeler transport truck.
I covered over 2700 miles during my trip and had a trip average of 21.9 mpg which includes city driving.
I spent $1428.87 in gas for the entire trip.
Here are some pictures...

Trippin'
Thanks for sharing such a great and memorable trip. It are those trips with a special vehicle that make it so memorable. I saw that you got 21.9 mpg and I am just searching for a C63, and saw on MBusa that the C63 gets 13/19 mpg.
How was it that you were able to do so well?
Either way, It's still a great trip with Breathtaking views. Can you tell me how comfortable the car was? I have been going back and forth between the 911 Carerra which wouldn't be that comfortable and limited space, and the BMW 650i, and the C63 coupe with Panoramic Roof. On most review, they talk about the performance, and that's sounds like it's ok in that department. I'm asking about how your back feels, and the comfort of the suspension and did you have to stop often to stretch, and things like that...

2700 miles with a trip average of 21.9mpg = 123 gallons of fuel
And if you spent $1428.8 on fuel for the entire trip, then you paid = $11.6 / gallon.
What am I missing?

i think the 2700 was one way ... it's about 2500 miles from coast to coast.

So let's say 5400 miles in all.
And he spent $1400 in gas.
1) one way of looking at it.
5400 miles 21.9 mpg = 246 gallons of fuel.
$1430 in fuel and 246 gallons of fuel = $5.837 / gallon .. Abnormally high fuel cost.
2) another way of looking at it:
Taking average price of gas at $4.5, he used 311 gallons.
So his trip MPG ~ 17.3
I am not trying to play down the OP. I just had a hard time wrapping my head around the 21.9mpg including city especially when the numbers don't add up.

I can believe the 21.9mpg. I have achieved the same many times on my frequent 100 miles one way trip to Chicago suburbs. For long interestates like that, I'm sure close to 23mpg is easily possible with my car's lower Cd. Of course, long cruise like this is really not too excited.

I am not retaliating against OPs numbers.
I am just trying to connect the dots - since he gave us the distance and (abnormally high but possible) MPG and the (seemingly high for 21.9 mpg) total fuel cost.
