To do ECU or not
I'm having a tough time deciding if I should get an ECU tune for my car.
The real reasons for my hesitance are voiding my warranty, and price.
Anyone want to weigh in?? Thanks

you can get the tune with the handheld and just flash it back to stock as needed, although as some have mentioned previously here, there are some ethical considerations involved with that. but if you're cool with it, then go for it.

Straight from stock to tune you will notice a great increase. The tunes from all tuners have gotten much better over the years. This motor has been out a long time and the ECU even longer. But if you are worried about warranty, see how your local MB Dealership feels about modifications. They may point you in the direction of RennTECH which they may cover under warranty. They may also tell you not to. Get a good feel and go from there.
Personally,I have a great relationship with my MB service advisor and he takes care of all my family cars and my personal cars. So I'm lucky when it comes to warranty. I have 25k tuned miles and 15k of that was with full bolt-ons (headers, exhaust work, airboxes and drop-ins). This car responds great to mods, but everyone has had different experiences some lucky, some not.
Good luck on your decision.

no no no. Any aftermarket modifications ARE NOT covered under warranty. Renntech is not part of mb or amg. It's an X engineer's company. Pretty much mod at your own risk. Just because you have a tune it doesn't flat out void your warranty. If sensors or parts fail and they just fail just because that's what they do then they are covered. Now melt a piston or fry some parts because the modification caused them, then it's on you. For example... put lowering springs on and now the suspension suddenly has a noise that wasnt there before, that's on your dime. Put a tune on your car and complain about misfires, check engine light (with no direct part failures) hesitations etc.... it's on you. Put a tune on and your radiator starts leaking, it's covered because your tune had nothing to do with it. All dealer's and tech's are different. Bottom line if you're worried about paying for something out of pocket then stay stock. Will something go wrong, doubtful if you go with some good but it's always a gamble.

Get the handheld tuner from OE. Flash it back to stock whenever you take it to the dealer. They wont trace that it was tuned.

I don't think a tune is worth it for a car that already has the p31 package. Gains are half of what they are vs. tuning a 'regular' c63 (because the p31 is already tuned somewhat). Not worth the money and loss of engine warranty in my opinion.

If you have a p31, I don't think it's totally necessary to tune it. If you have non p31, I personally would tune it. The warranty issue is all BS the stealership would have to exactly pin-point that the tune/mod would have damaged the car. Even if you blew a piston or a gasket. They would still have to investigate if the that part was weak or flawed to begin with. And, besides most notably tuners now a days, have a a pretty strong file for the car within safe limits.

why's everyone on here so worried if their C63 will break with a tune or not? Lol..i've had all 3 tuners, when i bought my car it had a blown intake manifold, a screwed up purge valve and a few other things all at ONCE and i beat the hell out of it still and it still ran fine, don't be scared of doing things to your c63..it isn't some cheap piece of equiment thats going to smash into a million pieces if you floor it. Pretty sure these engines could have 4 blown pistions and still run a <15 second 1/4

no. Unless amg built it and installed it, or mercedes it's not covered. That includes Weistec, Kleemann, Brabus, Renntech, Eurocharged, OEtuning and all the others.
To add to the comment directly above. Yes as long as it's some decent well known tuner it's going to be fine, but may have strange intermittant drivability issues sometimes.

tune your car period, nothing will happen, if ur worried about warranty, how about those of us that live where we cant get the warranty and yet the car hasn't imploded, get a solid tune and enjoy the car, a tuned p31 is better than an untuned one, i own a p31 and drove stock for months before i tuned and i can assure u its not the same car i bought.

This is a decision only you can make man. Sleep on it, if you wake up finding yourself desperately craving more power (you will ) then throw a tune on it.
Im not going to say Im completely worry free of malfunction, but if you are extremely worried, buy a Camry.
To me this is a car begging to be modified, AMG didn't build the car to remain stock, they know what gear heads do, the car is capable of handling more.

I know that Eurocharged provides you with the stock file to your ECU along with the tune file. If you need any warranty work done, you can flash your car back and forth between stock and performance with the programmer they send you.

I have a weistec tune on my car and the difference is night and day. Just pick a company your comfortable with and you won't regret it. Eurocharge is great option as well if you don't want to send your ECU out.

Find someone with a tuned car, ride along/drive and then go back to your car and see if you can still live with it. Chances are we will be seeing a review from you soon about how much you love your new tune.

On some C63 the hand held flash works. On some it doesn't. If it doesn't, the basic flash from Eurocharged or OE can be pin flashed without cracking the ECU. Chances are no one will ever know.

I have a 2013 same year as yours, but non P31. I tuned mine soon after engine break-in and has had the V4 and now the V5 from Eurocharged. But like anything I don't abuse it as it is my daily driver too.

I wouldn't tune it. If you do, I wouldn't expect MB to warranty it. And if you think going back to stock covers your butt, it doesn't. If something goes wrong and they wanted to investigate further, they can pick up the flash. It's not hard and there are "fingerprints" that are left behind with date stamps every time something is done to an ecu.

are you really going to spend the time and money litigating? it's not like you can walk into the dealer with a piece of paper and magic doors will open. if the dealer wants to make life difficult, they can and will.

ok look, i know the flash is easily reversible, but whenever someone brings up this magnuson warranty act like a pre-law student, i can't help but giggle.
