non-$32,461 exhaust setup for c63

keeping the primary cats in place is what saves this exhaust. If you get rid of those it will sound terrible - glad you kept them. Sounds good, and a cost effective solution. I think most of the aftermarkets are so expensive because they are made to not sound horrible when used without cats.

COLD startup sounds very different....

And just for fun this was my former glory (R.I.P.)

If you are just looking to change the sound and make it louder anything without mufflers will do that.
I am no way trying to justify purchasing very high end exhausts. But its a lot more then just welding some pipes together.
Since you kept the stock cats in place, all you really did was change the tone of the exhaust note. Once you start deleting cats and running LTH's. You will quickly realize why many of us run Mufflers
Sub'd for some sound clips

I played with this c63 setup a pretty good bit before ending up here....do you have any idea what the resonator alone does to the sound of our cars? It COMPLETELY changes every aspect of it....if you left the reso in place and remove the mufflers it sounds like a competition chainsaw (I swear)....but add in a true x-pipe and the tone REALLY mellows up (MUCH quieter than stock)....now when the mufflers come off the mellowness stays, but the volume increases to a good powerful tone without that tinny rasp that I personally hated whwn I went WOT on the stock setup.

a resonator is tuned to make destructive-interference, which cancels or attenuates, opposed to constructive which would amplify the tuned freq
basically a wave 180 deg out of phase with the cruising drone frequency, so they cancel/attenuate the primary or harmonics they are tuned for
they can determine this by the length of the pipe
so when cruising at say 2000 rpm the primary freq is 33 hz (or 33 cycle/sec), with a 2nd harmonic at 66, etc.
the speed of sound is ~1125 ft/sec
velocity of propogation = wavelength x freq or wl = v/f = 1125/33 = 34 '
you only need a 1/2 to get sound, more of a 'thrum' or 17'
the exhaust is too short for the wave to establish
so what about 66 hz? wl = 8.5' to establish
so they tune the system like an oscillator with the resonator making a 66 hz wave 180 deg out of phase from the 66 hz produced by the engine exhaust note
honestly I like to oem sound, it is well crafted, quiet when cruising, loud when on the go pedal
not judging, to each their own

Gotcha.....I was actually stating that I was laughing because out of the blue you came out with THE definition of how resonators work and the theory of frequency cancellation....it was a compliment
BUT....
You apparently felt the need to lash out so If swinging at me makes you feel better I say have at it....I dont expect everyone to like what I like or condone what I condone, just presenting options....****

simmer down lil's cowpoke, just a joke
there is nothing you can do to make me 'lash out' or 'feel better'
people and their damn feelings

Here are my two cents.
Don't see it as a put down it's just honest feedback.
If I'm not mistaking the stock exhaust is designed by eisenmann, which is a damn good company. That should tell you more than the theory of sound waves and the other bs pulled from wiki.
The stock exhaust sounds damn good the way it is.
I like your mods so far like the eyebrows, reverse light and so on. Please dont going any farther. making your own welded painted black pipes and use them as an exhaust system is a little too much in my opinion.
I'm sure you want to sell the car down the road. I would hate to see the autozone and Home Depot part on a C63 if I would be a potential buyer.
I like the ideas how you want to mod the car just source the right stuff.
So you stay happy

And additionally, I dont typically sell my cars....I buy them to drive....hard and daily. I put about 60k mi per year on my vehicles and know that im going to run through their resale value way faster than I could ever recover financially from trading in and out every 5 to 6mo....I do have a car or 2 that I dont drive in order to protect their value, but I also understand that when I made that decision I made them investments instead of cars and my daily drivers are cars. Thanks for the input as it is always appreciated

I know that eisenmann designed a few AMG exhausts but wasn't 100% sure on the C63 and did not google it.
Pss. I just looked and that is on wiki. Everything is on wiki.

it is stamped on the actual exhaust system though
show me on wiki where that analysis/explanation is please
it is HS physics
wiki can't do your thinking for you

The C63 Tips are made by Eisenmann, Arvin Meritor makes the actual mufflers.
Don't worry JP as long as you enjoy the sound that's all that matters. Some of us are a bit more particular with our setups that's all. There are a lot of people who haven't even played with their exhaust setups that will chime in to say something.
Kudos to you for actually trying something different. Take others experience and create your own. Perhaps if you venture into headers and down pipes, you will have to change your exhaust setup to compensate for the extra "noise" hehehe.

strange that they don't make the tips?
they have a patented tip that collapses/breaks loose and is replaceable like on the BMW M cars

What I wish I saw was Solo Performance in the 63 market...in my opinion that is the best sounding V8 setup you can buy (but keep in mind my taste is deep and mellow)

Power to you for being innovative and creating your own. That's part of why cars are so much fun, when you have the skills and imagination to work on them yourself.
Not a fan of fart cans (yes, I listened to your sound clips). Exhaust tuning is genuinely a science, and I trust Porsche, MB, BMW to know more about it than home-made self-taught mechanics. That's just me.

Thanks for the insult.
I'm glad I helped you to feel better about yourself.
Didn't have to wait for too long.
You had to have the last word.
I'm out.

Nice looking setup, but I really prefer the sound of these cars with an H-pipe over an X-pipe.
Here's mine. No secondary cat and an H-pipe where the reso was.
