Rev limiter raise to 7500 or higher because...
Hello Community ,
my 2009 c63 pp had the famous "head bolt issue" not dramatic but i noticed a little coolant consum and sometimes white exhaust gas.
The diagnosis was some lengthen head bolts ...close before cracking
Follow Parts are new installed now :
Head gaskets
Head bolts
SLS valve buckets - annoyingly maybe the sls bs are better now its to late
SLS valve springs
Can i raise the rev limiter up the 7500 with the sls valve springs without stressing the Engine ?
The Point is , when i got headers installed i tell Jerry from eurocharged my Car mods and he will create me a great costum tune - maybe with raised rev limiter...

If the head bolts were cracked mb had paid 50 % for follow work :
New Head gasket
New Head bolts
New valve buckets
Working Time
Total : 3400€
I had to pay 1700€ (50%)
The problem was that the Head bolts were only lengthen ....
In this case mb pay only 50% for follow work :
New head gasket
New Head bolts
Working Time
Total 2000€
I have to pay 1000€ for that + 700€ valve springs (incl. Install) + 1000€ valve buckets + oil and so .....
Overall : ive to Pay circa 3000 €
Car : 2009 c63 AMG p30 , 55000 km , coolant consum 500 ml all 2 month without noticable leak on the outside of the engine...
BTW : i will speak with my counselor because the official diagnosis are "Head gasket failure left+right"
For me this is a fail diagnosis because both Head gaskets are 100% good - and both gaskets fail at the same time ....lottery winning are proable !
The reason for the coolant consuming are only the lengthen Head bolts but mb only Pay the half of that when cracked !
We will see ;-)

Very good information thanks
Sounds like MB has a formal policy relating to this
So you lost 1/2 liter in 2 months ,,, how many kms?
How did you convince them to do the work?
Did you tell them about the coolant loss and they gave you the option of having the work done?
Is there a spec for the coolant loss?
For example if you lose 1/2 l in 2000 km they will do it
If you lose 1/2 l in 3000 km they will not
Or something similar

U go to mb garage and tell your problem ( coolant consum/lose)
They will check for some block/outside leaks
If there is nothing to find they will demount the heads
If a head bolt are cracking wile demount they will ask via mb system for a Factory cost sharing IN COMPLIANCE with your cars specs (milage? Nonstop mb service ? My ? )

Mb will it handle so :

It has been inferred to me that this is the case but they won't put it in writing
I have been documenting my level closely
I was also told having MB service history/record is very important
Thanks

Using rough numbers
You lost 500 ml in 2000 km or 2 months
Based on a 5 year old car and 55000 km, figure 1000 km per month avg
In the middle of the tank 1" ~ 17 oz = 500 ml
17 oz in 1200 miles or 14 oz per 1000 miles
In 6000 mile year that is well over 1/2 gal, 84 oz, that is a lot
Mine has lost ~3 oz in 7000 miles
4 to 5 mm of level change
And 5800 of those miles were long highway 80 mph runs, 8-12 hours at a clip stopping only fuel/food/etc

i've been running the rev limiter at 7500rpm for like a year now, no issues what so ever but then again ..its not very often you're going to be seeing 7500 RPM anyways because 1st gear pull to 6grand is fast enough
IMO headbolt cost is cheap 5-6k?....you guys need to go blow a intake manifold...Lol...now thats $$$$$$$$ ($8400 just for the PART from MB..I'm sure you could buy it for $2-4k some where else though)
I will admit it's odd your guys cars lose coolant...I've had my car for 2ish years now and driven 40,000 hard KM and not once had to top up or anything on coolant

Thx for your answer
Which tune are you using on your c63 ?
What MY is your Car ? Performance Package (SLS internals)?
Head bolt problems are goes till engine number 060658 , should be solved end 2010.

What is the rpm for peak hp on a stock motor?
6800?
Shift points should be determined by plotting thrust in each gear vs rpm or road speed on a common graph, 10 mph or 500 rpm intervals
Thrust = torque x gearing / tire radius
You can ignore the tire r
You want to shift right before thrust in the current gear falls below that of the next gear
Easily done in excel, maybe if I get bored st work lol

Same here . 7500 rpm for a while now car running strong . Picked up 700 rpm, and on the dyno the power goes flat but it help when u get into next gear I'm on top of the power.
U can have your tuner chance M to be S+ in face lift models changes gears on its on at red line unlike regular sport it changes before red line sometime before 6k.

Wait are you saying your car shifts itself at 8000rpm automatically? One thing I hate about my '11 is that the paddle shifters are basically useless there's so much delay. That would be a Huge advantage even if the rev limit wasn't raised, not sure I could make power that high with my setup. You seem to have a rocket lol. Any issues running that much rpm?
Wheels are F14s 18 inch. Just my car is slammed so they look bigger.

Thanks on wheels, they look to be affordable too
So the tach is optimistic in these cars? By 300rpm or so? That kind of sucks. What's up with that AMG??? Thx for info!

Stock 6800rpm when changing gears drops to 5200. @5200 I'm at 420rw. At 6800 it's 470rw.
On 7500 tune when changing a 7500 it drops to 5800. @5800 I'm at 450rw and 7500 I'm at 470.
