C63 tries PSS for the first time
I recently picked up a set of OEM ROW air boxes and changed from the 18" OEM Continental 5P's to a 19" set of Michelin PSS's. The air boxes - wow. I was going into these with the Eisenmann Race Exhaust and noticed a fairly substantial increase in wonderful cabin and exterior noises. The car does seem to be more responsive to throttle input too. Though it must be noted that even a ballerina's footwork can't avoid the drone zones .
The PSS - wow these are meaty tires. I was surprised by the amount of shoulder the 255/30/19's had on a 9" wide wheel, despite 9" being the maximum allowable width recommended by Michelin. On the road it is immediately apparent that these tires have a much softer sidewall than the 5P's, and the resulting configuration delivers less feedback compared to the factory pairing. However, you quickly appreciate the comfort and compliance.
I haven't had too much time to drive in these yet but the initial impressions are very positive. I hope I can get good mileage out of them because they really are a shocking improvement in comfort despite going up a wheel size.

Don't plan on getting good mileage out of them. They are a max performance summer tire, and with a wear rating of 300, you can't expect much life. I am at about 4K on mine in the rear and will need new ones within the next 2-3k miles. I'll be impressed if I make it to 7k. Looking for the next option now... something with some better life. Gets too damn expensive to replace rear tires twice a year!

I guess that's why some people opt to just buy cheaper rubber since they won't last regardless , I was told Michelin honors the warranty at half life prorated so they will prorate out 15k mi on them

I'm gonna be guilty of my own pet peeves here and chime in about tires, lol. I'm gonna try the AS3's. 500 wear rating, and since I don't track the car (plus don't mind tail-happiness), I think they may be what I need. I keep going with RE11's, and I feel like I live at my tire shop.

My C63 (used) came with AS3's. They have 7K+ miles and look to have at least 5 left in them (depending on my right foot). Depending on how they do this summer I might just stick with them next time around. 5K miles per set is just plain nutty.

hmm i'll have to check these tires out.
my c63 will be here this week, and i need to prep myself for tire wear.
I certainly don't need any special tires as quickly as they wear out.
Anyone run Hankooks?

I heard HK's were good for the money, but get pretty loud as they wear. I have no personal experience with them though.

PSS are great tires. You will be very happy with them. They are truly one of the few models capable of both daily driving and track duty (although don't expect them to last long if you put them through that double duty).
For daily driving, I've come to the conclusion that I want tires that 1) perform well during the season I'm using them and 2) ride comfortably and quietly.
For summer driving, those are the Continental ExtremeContact DW max performance summer tires. They offer great traction on dry pavement, best-in-class wet grip, and a supple, virtually noise-free ride.
With respect to winter driving, I like the Dunlop Winter Maxx tires, which I am running currently, (dedicated snow/ice tire) and the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32s (performance winter/snow).
I have no doubt I'll run PSS tires again but for now, the DWs fit my needs perfectly and the value is incredible (which is nice because the C63 eats tires).

i use to work at discount tire here in Houston tx, and I personally like the yokohama YK580's those have soo much meat on them treadwear is 580 but I dunno if they offer in the C63 tire sizes for 19's but definitely 18's and in my personel opinion it beats the continental dws all day b/c I experienced both tires..

Surprisingly, I don't drive that aggressively. I rarely get on it full throttle off the line. The DW was definitely on my list, even the DWS I have heard performs great and has a phenomenal rating. I spoke to a guy this weekend with a 660 RWHP Charger running DWS and he loved them, got 12-15K out of them.
Other option was the Nitto NT555. Had a set on my 03 cobra and they did very well also. Plus, potential to run a 285 since they tend to run a bit narrower!!!

If I was looking for an all season I'd lean to dw and in hindsight I might have been better off with that than pss but the price was roughly the same so when in doubt I always go Michelin

Still debating. I have a bit of time to decide though, so it's just research at this point, and price shopping. Looks like the nittos are 199 each for the rears in 275. The Conti's are a bit more, but not much. The conti's also still have a better treadwear rating. 540 on the DWS vs 340 on the nitto!
My car is a daily, so wet weather is a must. The PSS are great but again, dollar per mile it seems a bit overkill seeing as how I don't track the car.

what do you have on now, 275 or 265? I've searched for people running 275's, and the consesus seems to be is that they are too wide for 9'' rim (but they still work)
quartz, same question, are you on 265 or 275? the hankooks are sexy. i like em
