Flat plane crankshaft in M156
Lots or Folks spending lots of money on seven to eight hundred hp blown C63s.
I have thought ,for some time, someone surely would be experimenting with a flat plane crank, in the 6.2 liter AMG motor.
Of course, you would have to change, a lot, of things, such as injectors, cams and manifold, probably twin plenums, a total reprogramming, of the box and some other things.
With the right rods, probably titanium, and light pistons, such an engine ought to spin past eight thousand easy.
HP could exceed, 750 hp, perhaps more and no blowers and no inner coolers.
Flat crank engines aren't very smooth but they sure scream.
When Ford announced their 5.2 flat crank engine for the Shelby, I said why not MB?

I guestimate 3000.00 for crank from billet and hardening, of surfaces, balancing rotating assembly. Twenty two hundred for rods and pistons maybe twenty eight hundred.
Cams 350.00x4, new chains and gears 800.00 at most. Intake manifold , depending on who does it 3000.00 because it would be a first and custom. Redoing the brain depending on who does it and retuning it til it is right 2,000.00.Dyno time?
Dry sump system and pan 3,000.00 at most.
A shop familiar with flat plane crank engines would know what the layout of intake should be. Maybe copy Ferrari's ideas from their V12.
Surely 30,000.00 would cover it. Then the transmission and possibly different oil coolers and so on.
I bet somewhere out there someone has or is working such a concept. that would be an experience to hear a screaming bansheeC63 shifting at 8 or 9 thousand and sideways on each shift on the way to 220 mph.

You just proved Merc63s point. More than the cost of 2 supercharging setups, and way more complex to do, i.e. chances to make mistakes and having to do rework/repairs. I cringe thinking of broken valve stems, prematurely worn cams or crank......

For the cost, R&D, etc I would just buy a GT350 for less and gain a manual transmission again and likely a SC will come out for the GT350 that will be cheaper than ours and make the thing faster/as fast as a stage 2/3 weistec.
