New OEM tail lights, error codes for both turn signals
My 2010 C63 had LED blackout tail lights. I decided to switch back to OEM lights to pass inspection. I bought a set of OEM tail lights and a set of OEM lamp carriers (the gray piece that holds all the lights). I installed them and everything works fine, except I get the "Check left rear turn signal" and "Check right rear turn signal" whenever I attempt to use them. The blinker in the dash blinks faster to indicate that the light is out.
The lights are not out. I've visually checked, and both turn signals light up and blink when they are activated. But I still get the warning message telling me they don't work.
My only two guesses at this point are:
(1) It's related to the previous LED tail lights. Maybe they had a resistor installed somewhere and I have to find and remove that? I have looked around in the tail light area and there are no obvious resistors nearby.
(2) It's related to that tail light recall from two years ago. But I have no idea about that recall, as I had aftermarket tail lights and ignored it.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bet that you need to take it to a shop with the star diagnostic tool for reset.

When I pulled the old carriers out from the aftermarket LED taillights, the orange bulb was missing. There was also a blue wire and a red wire which plugged into little prongs on the carrier. Here is a picture of them.
So there are two differences. (1) the orange bulb is removed and (2) there are two wires to plug in. The wires are for some kind of circuit board that are integrated into the aftermarket tail lights. There are no wires for the OEM tail lights. I will try to use the OEM carrier with the orange bulb removed, but what about the blue and red wire? Those don't exist on the OEM tail lights that I bought.
From what I've been reading on the forum, the LED's won't light up without at the very least the blue wire. But my OEM tail lights are just an empty plastic shell, they have no wiring at all.

2010/2011 cars need a rear SAM unit from a 2012+ W204. You also need to code them to your car.
NOTE: You will lose your rear sun shade function when you swap your SAM unit to the 2012+ version.
2008/2009 Model years you can code the LED's into the existing SAM.

Is there any way for me to just have a 2010 C63 with 2010 OEM tail lights? That's all I wanted here. I purchased OEM tail lights and OEM lamp carriers. I'm not trying to upgrade anything.

What do you have currently on your 2010 C63? Non LED Tails? Can you post a pic of them?

Then I have OEM tail lights that I bought from this forum. They are "empty" on the inside i.e. no wires, no circuit board.
Finally, I have 2 sets of apparently identical lamp carriers. I bought a new set because I thought my old set was specific to the blacked out tails, turns out they are identical. They are shown with the wires plugged in to the blacked out tails.
It's worth noting that I tried to buy an older set of gray lamp carriers (2048200677 and 2048200977) and the parts company said yeah those have been replaced with new versions and they shipped me 2048201600 and 2048201500 instead. Did they ship me a newer LED type when I really wanted those older ones?

It almost looks like you bought the wrong tail lights. C63's have led turn signals. Do your new tail lamps have led for this or is the whole thing normal bulb based?
The tail lights you show mounted on your car above look incorrect in the turn signal lens area whereas the tinted ones have the correct lens look other than being tinted.
Looks like you have purchased a set of C300-350 lights which are not the same as C63

The new tail lamps have no wiring of any sort. They are 100% bulb based. I think that may be my problem. They came from a 2009 C300. I had been told all C-class tail lights were the same, but it's looking obvious at this point that my tail lights are non-LED and my lamp carrier is LED. Hence, the carrier has 2 inputs for LED wires, but the light does not have any wires to reciprocate.

Yeah, I see that now. But I asked on this forum 3 weeks ago and was told they are identical, which is why I bought the C300 tail lights.

The 08-11 C63 has a different rear light than a regular c class. The C63 turn signals are LED with bulbs for the rest. The regular C has regular bulbs and no LEDs. They are different Part Numbers. The '12 and up has LED bulbs.

Just get the inspection done and then throw the old lights back in. It's that or you're going to have to buy a new set to get the warnings to go away.

In other news, I'm now selling both of these sets of tail lights (the tinted I'm just not a fan of, the OEM is obviously not the correct part for me). Please PM if interested.

Ugh. So I bought a 09 It had gay led lights and came with stock ones. So tonite I switched the stock ones in. Low and behold they are off c300 2011. So my issues prior to stock mix up. Center brake and reverse lights work for ten second then shut off. Also no shade
So now with c300 lights same issues plus rear turns work then turn off. I am right and assuming relearn off the Sam and 09 c63 lights

Yes they are OEM and are LED. See this thread:

Price is $100 and we can meet up as I'm 40 minutes from Philly (assuming from your username you are local)

I have a similar issue. I have a 2009 C63 and my tail lights have that blue and red wire, too.
If you plug a bulb in to the carrier, in addition to having the wires plugged in, I get an error on my dash and the turn signal blinks like crazy.
What is stock? Does everybody have the blue and red cable? Or did my previous owner remove the stock bulb and replace it with those LED strips and blue and red cable?

Check the grounding wire. There was a recall once on that. even with the replacement, I had an issue and had to run the ground myself to the body.
