Replacing a C63 with a new Z06?
Am I crazy for considering this move? I really miss a manual transmission weekender. I have a 2014 507 Coupe with 12K miles on it and I can order a nicely equipped, brand new 2017 Z06 for $79K. Anyone here come from a Z06 and can tell me how you compare the two? The dealer lent me one for a couple hours and I was impressed. 7 speed manual.

No, it's a better performance car in every possible way.
Z06 is a beast, but have you considered the Viper? V10 manual only and doesn't have the overheating problems of the Z06. FCA also drop the msrp of the viper by $15k.
It also is more rare, looks more exotic, and performs better on track.

I have driven enough vettes to know I will never own another one. Cheaply built, GM support is terrible and build and interior quality is awful. The new gen vette is tail happy at the limit. If you go through the vette forums, you get a mix of happy customers and pissed off ones.
You take your chances owning a GM made car these days. Yes it may be faster, but at what cost.

A friend has a new black Z06 with Z07 package. It looks like the Batmobile and is crazy fast. Sounds amazing too. Although the specs say the auto box is slightly faster, his is manual and I prefer the thrust when manually shifting gears with the 650hp!
Only drawback applies to pretty much all American cars... it's the leather. I assume it is imported from somewhere in Asia (probably China) as there are no tanneries in the USA. It just doesn't have a great look, feel, or smell compared to similarly priced European cars.

My friend had the older Z06, and it was a beast for sure. But like others said, it definitely felt cheap. I never drove the new one, so I can't say if it feels any less cheap, but it's definitely not an AMG.

That said, I'm not blown away by my C63's interior either. Leather is hard and cheap feeling and the instrumentation is plain vanilla. Not much nicer or luxurious than a Toyota Camry. At least with the Vette I'll get some flash (and the HUD is pretty cool). I do hate giving up the back seat, even though I rarely use it. The manual really took me back to the good old days when I was in total control of the car and I liked it mucho.

Funny you mention that, the loaner Z06 (2200 miles on it) had a rattle just behind the driver's seat that drove me nuts! I have connections at the dealer service level, though, so I suspect I'd be able to get most of the annoyances repaired pretty easily.

I'm looking to stay under $80K and the Z06 does that perfectly. I don't need all the crap that pushes them over $110K.

based on my recent experiences with newer cars, they ALL rattle at some point. it's all the plastic used now I think

I've driven plenty of Vettes from standard to Z06 to ZR1s. You're strictly buying that car for its motor and track capabilities. Best bang for the buck as far as performance goes.
For a daily/long term usage, no way in hell I'd own one. The only way I'd buy a Vette is if it's for weekends and tracking.

You're not crazy for considering this move. I am also contemplating the addition of a Z06 with the 3LZ package or waiting for a GT350R. The manual transmission is something I've also been missing.
To all those that think the new Z06 vettes are cheaply built, the interior materials for the 3LZ package rivals and surpasses that of the w204 C63. There's an old adage that goes, "Don't knock it until you've tried it!". I would like to believe that we're all car enthusiast here and not brand ******.

I don't know, man. I almost picked up a 2013 CTSV sedan before my C63 luckily popped up. I LOVE the CTSV in sedan or wagon form, and the ride is awesome. Not just the motor, which is a masterpiece in and of itself. Some bolt ons puts you in the mid 10s like a walk in the park.

Yet people have had their engines grenade after only 500 miles causing GM to set new rules in an service form to change the break in oil at 500 miles because the metal they use in the block and their parts are flaking off causing havoc inside the engine. I won't even go into their horrible 8 speed transmission issues.

If you want a 10 second car, get a 10 second car. But if you want quality and a solid built car, you don't look GM's way.

I just sold my vette this Saturday, I had a '12 grand sport supercharged. I agree with all the interior issues and "cheap look" feel but you can't deny the mod friendliness of the LS engines. The new Z06 is plenty fast, but you can still get more out of it with a few bolt ons and tune. I also agree that for a daily driver car, that's not the way to go, but as the OP said, he's looking for a manual tranny weekender which the C7 Z06 will more than satisfy that. The manual tranny is very smooth and the power delivery is crazy. I think you will have plenty of fun with it as long as you stick to the plan of weekend car occasional track event.

The facelift interiors are going on 5yrs old. Plus remember that it's still just a C class - sure, may be best in class, but that's not a very high bar for an entry level car.
With that said, I'm perfectly happy with the interior except for the plastic upper dash. Did a full clean and protect of all the interior leather and trim, and vacuumed it for the first time in a year the other day. Looks and feels great to be in there.
