In need of your help with purchase of an '05 CL65
I have the opportunity to purchase an '05 CL65 in Pewter Metallic with Charcoal interior. The car has 88K miles with a clean Carfax. What are your thoughts on $22,500 for this car based on the options below and the color combo? They're giving me a good price on trade-in, so they'll effectively taking a grand less for the car. Based on Edmunds it's has a Dealer Retail of $30,505.
- Xenon headlights
- Navigation system
- Adaptive suspension
- Power folding mirrors
- Power glass moonroof
- Engine start/stop button
- Heated/cooled front seats
- Power open/closing trunk
- Headlights washer system
- Front & rear parking sensors
- Power rear window sunshade
- Homelink system (garage door opener)
- Automatic dual-zone front air conditioning
- Residual heat recirculation Am/fm/CD/mp3
- Bose stereo 6-disc cd-changer in the trunk 10 Bose speakers
- Steering wheel controls (volume, & etc...)
- Front power seats Memory seats settings
- Wood trim
- 19" AMG Alloy wheels

I would ask for the service records if they have them. If its that cheap, that means there's something wrong with it. If the ABC is going, you're looking at thousands of dollars for repairs.

The only "optional equipment" you have listed is the keyless go and parktronic. The rest of that is standard on a CL65. Looks like the car has also had the windows tinted. That being said it sounds like a good price for the car if everything is in good shape. Be sure the brakes are good and the ABC system is in good order because those are expensive systems to maintain. And don't forget, there is nothing as expensive as a cheap used Mercedes, LOL.
Ahh I need to type faster next time.....

Thanks for the heads-up regarding ABC and the 2-piece rotors, as I'm fully aware of the cost associated with their maint and repair. Luckily I'm a decent mechanic when necessary, and understand the value of a good Indy shop.
Moreover, this car will be mostly a track (1/4 and 1/2 mile) and weekend driver, so I can repair and maintain at my own pace.
I love the "there is nothing as expensive as a cheap used Mercedes" quote. I'm sure that will stay with me for a long time.

Yeah, that saying is true, LOL. I bought mine in October and have already spent a couple thousand more than planned for, and I'm still running an origonal coil and the car is only making 6#'s of boost for some reason so I'm sure there is more to come.......
Looks like your first mod will be a new cup holder & release cover.

BTW, in that pic the front is lower than the rear. Don't know how long the car has been sitting for the front to sag like that. Its normal after a week but not after a day... Have it checked out.... But play stupid at the same time and see if the dealer will slip up. Maybe go look at it one day and make sure its sitting at the right height and come back first thing in the morning and see if its still sitting at the same height or it has sank down in the front.

That's the car..thanks for posting the info. On a positive note, at least I now know how much they paid and how long it's been on the lot. That car's quickly approaching 90 days.

I would not touch a car that sold for that much at the auction, if the highest bid was 12,500 and the seller sold it for that low right there it says something is wrong. Most guys at the auction know what they are buying and what it is worth and most guys know what point to sell and what car is worth when sold. If the seller agreed to give this car away that much lower than avg book it just means he really wanted to get rid of it. I would really look deep into this car and even after that would not buy it. Just my .02

i was a wholesale car dealer for 8 years. There has to(or had to) have been something wrong if the car sold at the sale that cheap. (body/frame damage) (title issue) something!! car dealers at auctions are sharp, they wouldnt leave $5-8k on the table. That being said, $22500 for the car is a great deal! just be very leary about issues it has/had.

Dealership claims that's not the same car. Does the report show the VIN number? Here's the VIN of the car I'm looking at: WDBPJ79J65A046562

Does the dealership have a carfax? If so it should tell you if the car was sold at auction in the history. If they haven't offered one I would ask & definately don't buy the car without a history.

The dealer told me they purchased the car in June of last year from Orlando, FL and paid 23.6K for it. Below is an exerpt from the Carfax. Who holds onto a car for that long??? Maybe someone can check the VIN of the 12K car in the auction and see if it matches??
UPDATE: I stated above it was hard to believe they had the car for a year, but below is a youtube video of them listing the car last year, so I guess they really did have it that long.

Thanks. In your opinion, does this indicate the car is the "$12,500" car in the auction or not. I have the Carfax on it and it's clean. In the AutoCheck it appears the car doesn not qualify for Buyback Protection, so there must be an issue with it.

It has something with the title, an issue not sure yet but carfax did not pick that up. I would say skip on the car but it's your choice. Do you have a pic of the entire carfax not just the last page? all pages. If you do please share.

I'll upload and post the entire Carfax shortly.
