You don't worry about the heat discoloring or peeling the decals? It wouldn't be an issue with regular driving but some spirited driving or a stop from well into the triple digits could get things toasty.
I've only lettered a caliper once (a far less substantial one) and I used the vinyl as a template. First I painted the caliper with the color I wanted the lettering to be (silver). After it dried I applied the vinyl and painted the caliper its main color (Subaru blue). Then the vinyl was peeled off to reveal the lettering, all in high-temp paint.
I know it's not as much brake but it's easier to stop 3600 lbs

^^^ This is the third vehicle where I've used vinyl lettering on the calipers. The first two never had any discoloration or issues, so I'm sure this one won't either. If the decals exhibit issues, I'll have my wife create some new decals. No big. I see your point, but from experience my 1/4 mile racing hasn't been enough to push them to the limits.

Question: My silver calipers on the front of my CL 55 have turned "gold" after 2 track days. Seems hauling the beast down from 135 repeatedly at NCCAR track in June warmed the calipers past their comfort zone. What is the right type of paint to use for these and where to find it? Also, are the decals that you see for the calipers on Amazon good enough? I want to do this repaint once, not repeatedly. Thanks. J

You're tracking a CL55, seriously?? I'm surprised based on the weight of these pigs. Do you have a link to videos of it running? I'd love to see. Guys over on the Crossfire forum race the hell out of the SRT6's, but they weigh considerably less.
Anyway, sorry, but I can't help with the paint. There's no way vinyl anything is going to hold up on the calipers considering how the calipers are heating up. I would think the high temp caliper paint would work fine, but stay away from powder coating. I read Brembo hates it, as it holds in the heat. Do a quick google and you'll read the same.
Good luck.

With your charcoal wheel color, the orange is clashing. Maybe a dark red would look better and tone it down some. It is only paint, so no harm in trying what you like.

I don't hate, but that is a very boy-racer color for such a distigused looking car.
I will also be painting mine in short time, although my car is white and the calipers will be red with white lettering. I've never tried spray paint, I've always done calipers in epoxy caliper paint (two part)
For the record, there are dozens of vinyl stickers available on EBay for cheap:

Thanks for the honest critiques, but I've recieved way too many compliments from people that have seen them in person to change the color at this point. The photos don't do them justice.

Sorry but the orange doesn't work for me with the silver. I have seem kamils car which is black with orange calipers and it looks great. So it's not the color it's the combo.
Hey drjsilver you should check your brake fluid as it probably boiled. I have had the same issue with my calipers turning gold only difference being mine actually caught fire. SPA GP Belgium it only took 4 laps. I have since been back as well as to Silverstone GP with upgraded Brembo BBK and have had no issues. The stock brakes just can't slow down these beasts more than a couple of times without overheating.
