Blower Motor Won't Quit/climate Control Problem

I have a 2000 CLK 430. The blower motor will not stop with the climate control set to off, or even when the car is turned off. It just continues to blow. I had to remove the fuse to keep the battery from going down. Does anyone have and idea as to what the problem may be?? I think the climate control unit itself is fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

If your talking about the engine fan motor/blower or whatever you want to call it, check the MSA control module.. that is what controls the fan to turn off and on at high temps. My fan and module went out at 51k miles and I barely use the A/C..so it could happen to you as well..wish you the best of luck!

I have a 2002 CLK320 (W208) with the same problem. Is the MSA control module mentioned the same as the blower regulator? If not, where is the MSA control module located, removal/replacement instructions, ect? Thanks!

I had an exact same issue with my car. Cost me $350.00 to fix at the Indp. Shop.

Hey, focus.
Some of you are talking about the engine fan,
others are talking about the heater/ac blower.
These are two very different things.

I think I have a heater/ac blower problem, either it's the blower motor, or the regulator (NOT the engine.).

If Indp shop repaired the heater/ac blower problem,
then what did the do or what did they replace ? Any info.?

TSB addressed this. I have it at home on alldata, and will give send it to you later if you cannot find it, but try a search first. It's header is "electrical suction fan runs all the time". As I recall, it was due to water in fuse box, usually from engine washing. One particualr lead under the box was subject to corrosion. Easy and cheap fix.

I believe it is a resistor, that keeps the climate control fan going. Your's is most likely shot. It is around $200-250 part I believe. It is located under the dash on the passenger side

There's a blower regulator in the passenger foot well. Sometimes it goes bad, and your blower becomes eratic. It's a plug in.

Yes. Resistor was replaced. Indp. shop took the heater/ac unit from the dashboard using thin slider key then replaced the resistor. Whole job took less then 20 minutes if I remember correctly.

2000 CLK 430
Older thread with a newer part number. Latest part number is 210 870 02 10 28. It'll cost you around $210 at the dealer.

This is one of the few projects that took less time than I expected, only about 5 minutes. You'll need a T-20 torx socket or wrench.

Now for a good question. There was evidence of water (and leaves) getting in there. Where the heck does that come from, and can I seal it better, or clean out a drain? We get some heavy afternoon storms here in Florida, and I don't want to make a habit of fixing this part.

Thanks,

2003 w209 clk55 blower quits

Ok I have just changed my blower and regulator/resistor. I also changed the climate control unit. My blower continues to cut off after a while and then randomly comes on. It begins to throw hot air when it come back on. I have no clue and now I'm stuck. I have ran it on the STAR computers and it shows nothing. Does anyone have this or knows how to fix this... Help help

I changed my regulator and the problem persists :(

Problem must be upstream of the regulator, anyone have a clue what else it could be? (before I go buy a replacement heater control unit). Is there a simple relay like in other makes of car? (or is CLK W208 just fuse -> control unit -> regulator?)

Looks like Jdvoigt tried replacing regulator and control unit (dials) and that still didn't fix it.. any update Jd?

Thanks

I regret that I am not able to help,
but, JDvoigt's posting is from Aug 2015.
He either found a solution,
and didn't follow up on this topic,
or he sold his car.
Try to contact him directly.
He might have found a solution.

I had this problem and the cause was quite different from this suggested so far. The cause was crossed wires. This occurred shortly after I purchased the vehicle. While I drive it year around the PO stored it for the winter. As such I noticed the problem after the first cold snap when I turned on the heat and couldn't turn it off. Got it to the shop and they pulled the dash. They found mice nests and that they had chewed through the insulation of certain wires and used the insulation as nesting material clearly during the winter months when it had been sitting in storage. One of the wires with power was then in contact with some of the wires to the HVAC control unit resulting to constant power to the unit. Cost me 500+ for them to clean the nests etc out of there and re-wrapp the affected wires. Problem solved.

2002 CLK320 Convertible
2002 CLK 320 convertible. Blower motor wouldn't shut off when car was turned off. No problem with heat / air or climate control unit. Pulled fuse number 25 under the hood to prevent battery from going dead. Blower Motor Resistor replaced by a AAA local indie garage. $84 parts, $120 labor, $18 tax = $222.00 total.

bumping this thread; I have the same issue of the blower running constantly even with the ignition off. So, which wires were chewed through and crossed, were they in the engine compartment or inside the vehicle behind the dash? I replaced the regulator and it had no effect.

Thanks.
