Broken AUTO Climate buttons
I'm guessing the springs in my AUTO climate buttons have broken because now I can't turn on my heat using either of them. It first started with the Driver's side button and only the passenger AUTO button worked. NOW neither of the buttons work... Is this a DIY project or will I have to take it in?
ALSO... does anyone have any suggestions of a good extended warranty company (I'm in VA). I have almost 79K miles on my '01 CLK 320 and my currenty warranty is up at 90K.

hey Ms. Lucy....
same thing happened to me 30 days ago on my '01 CLK320 .
Paid 1100 at the dealership. I know that Volvo charges about the same for switching out their climate control

Same thing happened in my car a few months ago.
The button that turns on the heater/air conditioner (the button that also increases the fan speed) does not work. When you press that button, it feels like there's no spring.
In order for me to turn on my heater/air conditioner, I have to press the Auto button & lower the speed.
I don't think you have to replace the climate control unit.

You gotta be joking?! 1100? Well I called the dealership and of course they want me to pay for a diagnostic test ($1??.00) THEN they'll fix it. Hopefully my extended warranty will cover it. Thanks!!!

GUYS!!! This happened to me like a year ago and all you have to do for a temporary fix is to pop that broken button off and stuff some paper in the little hole on the climate control unit. There are thin plastic tabs that press the buttons on the inside and these parts break very easily. And NO the stealership will not just sell us the new buttons!!! They wan to sell the whole darn unit!!
And just another FYI ...I just bought a used one on EBAY for 56 bucks...it says its a workin unit but hell even at worst if its no good I can still just use the buttons that I need.
NO MORE WASTING MONEY GUYS..AND GALS LOL

Or...you could save more than half that price and then resell the old unit with the missing button to someone on the forum that has a bad unit and save even more!

i just had mine fixed a week ago.. i could not increase the speed of the fan and all what is was a LIL plastic broke that hold the button(IF ANYTHING DOES NOT WORK AND FEELS LIKE THE SPRING IS MISSING, ITS A LIL PLASTIC HOOK THAT HOLD THE BUTTON)..i called the dealer and said $1080 dollars and junk yard was $345 and about same price from ebay and rebuilt one.
So my mechanic opened it slowly and found the broken piece AND SUPERGLUED IT AND BAM EVERYTHING IS WORKING..I GAVE HIM A TIP $70 AND WAS LIKE GO HOME

I'd like to see what the plastic hook looks like that needs to be glued.
Ok, so who's gonna try this and take pics. Any takers?

All you have to do is pull the button that is not working and you will quickly see the plastic tab that is broken. I personally used a credit card right under the broken/inoperable button and pushed the button upwards. This will unlock the button with just a little bit of pressure. After it disconnects just pull the button off and you will see a plastic tab on each side of the button (left and right). If a tab is missing then look inside the hole that the tab would have went into and I guarantee you that it will be in there. Just pull the tab out and superglue it to the button again. I did this but it broke after a week.
So, I just ended up placing a thin paper/cardboard into the hole just long enough where it would still activate the button inside the hole. The paper I used was from a pack of AA Batteries so it was strong and thin enough for the job. I rolled it up pretty tightly so that it would be even stronger and capable of holding up after numerous uses.
This lasted 6 months till I was able to find a used and very cheap climate control unit on Ebay. I didnt even care if the unit actually worked because all I needed was the button. I just happened to buy a unit that still worked so I sold the Ebay unit with the broken on the forum for a cheap price. Someone else with a bad climate control unit ended up buying it and used his own buttons.
