Leaking heater core bypAss

If you only bypassed the heater core, then water is circulating through the block normally. If you bypassed more than the heater core, then all bets are off - but a simple bypass is , um, simple.
Ash knows better than me, but *I think* the dash comes out to access the heater core. It's a tedious job, but doable.
The click could be the air valve which is labeled "MOT". This is common and easy to replace.
Regarding the oil leak, three words: oil cooler seals.
Funny shifting, dying at lights, no heat, ticking, leaks oil and shifts funky. Are you going to roll over or roll up your sleeves? NOTHING you buy short of another Benz, and maybe a 911 (which will make Benz maintenance sound like a day in the park), or an Aston, or Lotus (I love those Esprits - although they have no power and the AC sucks on the early models, but if it's JUST LOOKS, gotta love the Lotus), but anyway, nothing will make you as happy as a Benz. Seen the new AMG sports car yet? Page 26 here. That will help you get over the CLK.

Core bypass
Has the problem been fixed? If I lived near you I would help you, I usually do all my own repairs, not doing my current Mercedes repairs as its under warranty. In your area you should be able to find someone to help you, wish you the best

1) this thread is really hard to read
2) this sounds like the type of person who should not be doing repairs, you will only cost yourself more $ in the end.
3) go find a good indy MB service shop and blow the mechanic out back hot stuff. He'll do your work after hours.
