Need help with 2001 CLK320......
Hello everyone,
I recently just took my 2001 CLK320 (205K miles) in for Service A to an independent shop.
I was hoping to get some input from fellow W208 owners on these prices and if they seem fair and necessary before I decide what I'm going to pay. I always like to get as many opinions as possible before I go and spend $1500 on the car.
Quick backstory on my car:
My Aunt passed away and left the car to me. She did not include any service records when she passed. I wanted to get the car looked over and here is what the mechanic had to say:
(All prices include labor and tax)
Rear Flex Disc= $325
Windshield washer pump= $125
Leaking Oil Level Sensor= $350
Recom. Transmission Service= $250
Recom. Spark Plugs and Wire- $450
*He showed me the cracks in the rear flex disc and said this would only get worse.
So if anyone out there can please share their experiences with their W208s and prices they paid, I'd appreciate it.
I just want to make sure these are fair and necessary repairs before deciding what I want to do.
Are any of these repairs "do-it-yourself", or is it better left to the professionals?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-

Flex discs are a must, the parts alone are $180 so what you're being charged is fair. There are two flex discs, replace both.
Windshield washer pump is unnecessary unless you actually use the windshield washing function.
The only things you REALLY need to replace out of the list is the flex discs. While you're at it you might as well replace all of the other rubber pieces/gaskets on the car since it's at 205k miles.

Thanks for the input.
The mechanic said the front flex disc looked fine.
The back one, however, had the 2 cracks in it.
I'll definitely be doing the flex disc repair and probably the transmission service.
Anyone know why the oil lever sensor repair is so much? I tried finding the part myself, but haven't had any luck.
Thanks

The windshield washer pump broken, or leaking? Do you have the heated windshield washer option? If it's leaking, it may need the grommet, which wears with time. That part costs seventy-nine cents at Autohaus AZ
The original equipment oil level sender costs $140. Just go to the Pelican Parts site, enter your car and "oil level sensor". Ditto for the Autohaus AZ site.
Since my local Mercedes-Benz dealer charges about $300 to do the transmission service, and there is no question that a dealer do it properly and use a quality filter & replacement gasket, I'd pay the dealer the $50 extra.
A Bosch spark plug wire set is $120 and a set of plugs is $60.
As for whether these are DIY repairs, that depends are your ability. I could do them all, but I'd pay the dealer to do the transmission service as it messy job that works best if everything is spotlessly clean.
I hope that helps.

Thanks so much Marcus, I was hoping you would chime in.
I think I'll definitely go with the flex disc and transmission service.
To be honest, I don't really use the window washer fluid anyways.

I just replaced the windshield washer pump. I got one extremely cheap at Rockauto.com and it took less than 30 minutes. It's a black cylinder with hoses coming out of it mounted to the side of the washer fluid tank.
The plugs and wires are not hard if you have any mechanical skill, but if it's running smooth, then I would not worry about them.

Do you by chance have the part number?
Appreciate it, thanks

Some of the work does seem a little over kill and you could resolve some of them yourself.
Funny thing though that if this car was in the UK and the wiper washer was not working, it would be illegal to drive as it would not pass the stringent annual checks we have, and they will fail your car if the water level is even low!
