Replacement for stock Navigation/radio system

Is there a good aftermarket replacement for the stock navigation on the W208? My Navigation CD is very out of date and there is an auxillary port in my glove compartment, but there is no aux switch on the system.

Any suggestions?

In a word; yes. Are you going to want a NAV unit? Something that plays DVDs? Cds? Bluetooth? iPod / iPhone / Android capable? If your car has the multifunction wheel,do you want to retain HU controls? Bose or aftermarket amps and speakers?

Alpine makes a good head unit. If you want Nav and DVD you will need a double din unit which will fit if you are willing to lose the storage tray just below the OEM single din unit. The divider between the single din unit and the top of the storage tray needs to be cut out leaving you with a one large box that a double din unit will slide nicely into. I elected to go with an Alpine single din unit as I had a Garmin Nav unit and got BT, USB, Aux jack, and pandora which were features I liked. I kept all of the Bose speakers except for the sub which I swapped for a Helix low profile sub which fits in the same spot as the OEM sub. Good luck.

What year is the CLK? If it has a multifunction wheel, both sides will work if you use PAC boxes. Like City, I prefer Alpine although I have seen some very attractive Pioneer units. Either one will work. Here's what I did. Something like an W940 will work just the same (although you'll lose a lot of screen). Ditto for an AVIC 5000 (no HD radio)/6000 (both w/more screen). You'll have to extend some cables to the side, but that's about it.

I have the 2001 with navigation, but it lacks the AUX and the navigation is just so outdated is almost useless. Even if I were to upgrade to the 07 CD which is the latest for this model it is still 8 years behind and the graphics aren't the best.

Just curious abut what you have now. First, you have a 2001, W208, CLK what?

I do not claim any expertise, always learning, but I have a 2002 CLK55, with upgraded Bose sound system and the OEM unit is single din with all buttons on the steering wheel functional. I was unaware that the MY before mine came with an OEM double din HU. I wish it had but it didn't, I would have had a lot more options. Still though happy with what I have.

The Command system was an upgrade available for the CLK that contains a CD based navigation system, updated on the W209 to DVD. There are numerous forums on upgrading US or European versions etc. good info is available at http://www.mercupgrades.com/comand++...rticle-54.html

All Command systems have Aux with a connection through the glove box for connecting an external MP3 type player, but it is not integrated with the system controls and is not very useful.

For the CLK, COMAND was introduced in the 2000 model year. Although it was very nice when introduced, like many tech devices it was quickly dated. Honestly, just about any modern smart phone has a better NAV app than the W208 COMAND. Not a knock, it's just that technology doesn't stand still.
