w208 cabrio top won't close
hello,
i have a clk cabrio w208 from 2000
the stood still from november till last week.
de battery was dead , i changed it with a new one.
the last week after replacing the battery it was Sunny and i opened the top.
this worked perfect but at the end of the day , i wanna close it and then this happened.
the deck opened , the top fully closes and the the topdeck wouldn't close .
it just stays up.
i hear a click if i stopped pulling the switch inside the car for opening and closing the top .
so i went to close it as written in the instruction manual with the hand.
i hope someone can tell me what the problem is or could be.
and if theres anybody who knows where the microswitches are located that's also welcome .
kind regards
vincent from belgium

Hi Vince,
The Hatch is the portion that encloses the top when opening, There is a wiring harness on the passenger hinge that feeds the Bow lock which is the top rear section.
The continuous action of use over the years often damages this part of the harness.
Check this first and follow top operation procedures in the manual like luggage cover closed and rear windows down etc.. and report.
The limit switches are located on their respective cylinders, sounds like bow lock harness to me though.
Its time for some ale
Gator

it does everything like opening windows , opening the hatch , opening the canvastop and then while i open the top the hatch closes.
but when i wanna close the top the hatch does open , the top come out of the trunk en closes but then the hatch wil not come down , it stays up.
do you maybe have a picture or so where the wiring harness is located ?
i ask this because the terms passenger hinge and the bow lock , I really don't know what they are because the english tech terms are a bit hard for me.
kind regards

This is a better description:
The wires I am referring to are on the right hand side of the hatch (cover) they are for bow lock. still required for control sequence
Your problem is hatch not closing after top is up or closed. hmmm
limits are located on the right hand (sit in car) cylinder for hatch.
I can find you a photo of both but not real quick.

You can see the see cable in the image, The cables have been repaired before by me after continued use and bend back and forth eventually break or fray.
Down in the crevis of the other photo you can see how tight the cable wraps around the linkage. The limit suspect is here.
It is after 6pm here and I am enjoying some home made Ale.
Sorry mate,
Cheers
Testing of the switch will consist of a ohm meter. 0 ohms or infinite

The system must see the bow open or closed before further action.
The hatch cylinder is only 1 the other is a shock, it is the easiest cylinder limit to test.
The top (canvas) cylinder limits are far worse to test. start with inspection of cabling to hatch cylinder. Located near the hinge photo or the left in your image.
This will be in the trunk which makes things difficult
If you have a helper do a wiggle test of the cables while operating the top switch (caution)

yes, I would let wife or friend operate the switch while you wiggle if movement is observed get out of the way.
If one of the limits is bad I do not believe it would have completed that much of the sequence. (be safe)!!!!
