I actually have a brand new Z120BT that I will be installing with the new controls that are already purchased. Only thing left is the install.

not exactly new. the DVN-MC2000 was always an option. the DVN-MBC is just the nicer looking of the two because it is for the post-facelift models the DVN-MC2000 will fit the pre-facelift model W209. i'll take the DVN-MC2000 please. paypal ready group buy price? i hope it happens

JeffB emailed me and stated no group buys. ~$640.00 was the lowest he can go and still provide warranty and install support. Their are a few other vendors that are cheaper, but they don't offer any support or warranty.

I checked out the thread that you linked to, you might try directing people to the threads on E46fanatics again as they are asking a lot of questions that are answered there, not to mention making some incorrect assumptions.... As we discussed the Dynavin has been very popular in the BMW community for over a year now so the Merc guys should realize that it isn't anything new.

I'm still excited! Just need to save some pennies for this HU and an Ipod2.

the navi looks pretty nice. it has a lot of neat features too. but id still prefer the avic full touch screen over this tho. or even a kenwood.

the the dynavin does have 3g support as well as the tv function. thats def really cool and something my avic cant do

this part didnt show

Also I saw a guy thinking that he could get a group buy going around $500. At $649 the margin is already as slim as it can get for me to be able to provide pre/after sale service and warranty service. Just look at the threads on the E46 forums of people who bought "cheap" and now cant get parts or service out of their dealer, they often end up coming to me trying to get help.....

I don't do group buys as they always turn into a mess. I will bring them in and when they are in stock at my store you guys will be contacted and have the to buy.

Thanks for introducing me to your community! I hope to do a good job for you guys.

i think the A2DP bluetooth is audio to the HU only, so we could not do tethering.. but there are the usb ports, does anyone have experience with CE units?

also is that price shipped?

i can email him, but i am just wondering if it would be better if we discuss in here and collectively ask questions through one or two people, instead of flooding his inbox.. any thoughts

I agree, i already asked my main concern with the compatibility of the MBC unit for the w203 with w209. No word yet though, its closer to $700 price range but im willing to splurge if my question is answered ofcourse.

i think i am willing to spend regardless.. just want some things clarified to justify it to myself

not speaking for them, but from what i understand the MBC is for both the facelifted w203 and w209.. as command for both are interchangeable (pls correct me if i am wrong)

i will be getting the DVN-MC2000.. just wish they put the facelift "style" controls on it

W211 2009 E350

Hey guys i just want to find out how hard is it to install the benz unit. I have W211 and my local shop down here in San Diego said that ALL Mercedes have fiber optic cable and it will need to be bypass and want to charge me $300 for installation. I want to know can I do it myself and is he lying to me about bypassing the fiber optic. I email ottonavi.com and they told me its a simple plug and play but they dont go into too much detail. My friend got his BMW E39 unit from them and it was simple plug and play. I want to use there coupon that they have "save100" for $100 it expire end of the month. Have anyone install the E-Class unit from Dynavin before?

Dynavin makes replacement headunits for all Mercedes you just need to google their webpage to find the correct model. From my understanding they are plug and play with the stock fiber optics.

The DVN-MC2000 will be avaible at the end of the month. Email jtdist@sbcglobal.net directly so he can track the interest in the different products.

Jeff's last email to me.

They are working on production right now so we are still looking at the end of the month.....but no promises! Ive got some on order for you guys, I would appreciate it if you could let the guys on the forum know to contact me to be added to my waiting list, that way I can contact them when the MC2000 units come in, plus I can get a rough idea of what demand is going to look like....

But also everyone needs to understand that this is a new model for the Mercs and as such Im not going to have a whole lot of answers for you guys about vehicle compatibility until some units actually get out there....the forum community is going to know that stuff better than me, I learn it from you guys. Basically whatever compatibility issues there might be with a regular aftermarket head unit, expect the same with the dynavin (except the dynavin will come with all the plugs and adapters to make it plug in easily).

Thanks,

Ottonavi.com said they have it in stock right now and they have a code to save $100. If its plug and play I will buy it and see how easy the install is.

few questions

Ok, I finally had time to compile a list of questions. Can you guys look this over and correct / add anything else? Then I would like to send this out to Jeff and maybe Dynavin.

1. Will it interface with the build in car network and which model with which?

This is what I understand right now, could very well be wrong on some of this:

Pre facelift 2003-2004, command (with navi) audio-10 (D2B fiber optic) in US it uses Bose with amp in the trunk connected with fiber (this is whats in my car and looks like DVN-MC2000 is the model I need) . Other option is with Navi that uses command also with fiber.

Audio-20 was 2004 up, its upgradeable to audio-50 so it has to use MOST fiber optic system.

Post facelift 2005-07 uses audio-50 or navi with command using MOST fiber optic system.

2. Will it allow to continue using the proprietary fiber connection to the Bose amp in the trunk? That would allow us to continue using the 2 ohm speakers that come stock in the car. If not, then we would need to run cables to the trunk, install new amp and replace all of the speakers to 4 ohm versions.

3. Steering wheel connectivity, is this provided out of the box or does it need extra hardware like PAC, connection harness etc.?

4. HUD screen – will it interface out of the box to allow control of the audio with display on the HUD screen?

5. Controls illumination, from the videos it looks like its in red, while our CLKs are in orange. Is this selectable or will we be stuck with red?

6. Windows CE / UI – From some videos on youtube you can see the windows desktop being visible for brief moment while switching threw options in the navigation. Also you can see white outlines of windows flashing on the screen during some transitions. Is this something that was fixed with later versions? Some videos on youtube have very clean transitions.

7. Looks like there are several versions of the software if I understand correctly is V5 the newest and what would be loaded on the units?

8. Navigation, does this require any additional hardware for GPS signal?

USB connectivity questions:

9. Any examples of the interface when navigating threw the USB connected device loaded with MP3s?

10. Any feedback on the load performance with large number of audio files?

11. Can files be organized in to multiple directories? Number of files limits?

12. Does it read the embedded ID information (artist, track) and use that for track display or just shows the file names?

13. Any limits on the length of the displayed artist/track text (truncating the names)?

Jeff emailed, maybe one of us can answer his question:

ok....just heard back from dynavin. *According to them they have managed to make a MOST compatible W211 and W219 model. *What they are trying to figure out right now (and so am I) is what US model*2000-2004 Mercedes C class and clk have a fiber optic audio system...from what I have found it seems that some do and some dont and you need to dig into the car to find out...do you know if your car has a fiber connection between the amp and the head unit?

The new MC2000 will work with the non fiber*equipped*cars but frankly I dont want to order a bunch in only to find that I can only sell them overseas*because*of fiber optic amps in the US spec cars.....

I have yet to find a concrete answer on this....what audio system is in what cars in what years in what markets, I need this info before I can sell these units and im not finding it! *This goes for dynavin as well....if they find that there is sufficient demand for fiber optic compatible C class units they will work on it but they need to hear the demand from you guys.
*
Thanks,

Hi, As far as I understand there are several systems in our US cars.
There is the Mercedes fiber communication network between some of the cars devices and the head unit is part of it. These networks come in several flavors based on the year of the car. The fiber going from the head unit to the amp in the trunk in Bose setup is NOT the same fiber. Its totally deferment and separate.

As I understand there are two issues with connectivity, one is interfacing with the particular Mercedes fiber communication network and the second is interfacing with the Bose fiber to the amp. If you have Bose amp then you have a proprietary fiber based connection from the head unit to the amp in the trunk. Honestly the amp fiber is not a huge issue but it would require running new wires from the head unit. Then you will need a new standard amp (with regular connections and 4ohm speaker outputs) and then all the speakers in the car will have to be replaced from the 2ohm Bosecrap to something standard like 4ohm, or you can try to find a rare 2ohm amp.

Now many have replaced the head units with after market ones and did not interface with the Mercedes fiber optic network.

This is what I understand right now and could very well be wrong on some of this:

Pre face-lift 2003-2004, D2B fiber optic network, in US it uses Audio-10 or Audio-30 head unit with Bose amp in the trunk connected with fiber (this is whats in my car and looks like DVN-MC2000 is the model I need) . This is a head unit with no navigation. There is also COMMAND 2.0 head unit option in some versions.

Post face-lift 2005-07 uses using MOST fiber optic network and Audio-20 or Audio-50 or COMMAND APS with navigation head units.

There are two types of audio 10 units, CD in dash, and tape in dash (the display flips down) with disk changer in the glove box (I have audio 10 with tape and changer with Bose amp in the trunk in my 2003 CLK).

EDIT: fixed for clerification
