I used the store bought refill cans on my trucks with success but didn't work on my '98 e300d. Spent one $60 on refill cans befor I took it to Jiffy Lube, theory evacuated, did a leak test and refilled with freon. Works great cost $100 total. Trying to sell the car so I wanted cool aid.

You turned the can upside down - don't do that! Those cheapy cans have no stop mechanism to prevent oily freon discharge from spewing out.
